In my understanding, it's made from cheese and therefore could potentially contain animal rennet. But not always. When products contain this substance, always make sure there is a V.

Whey is the liquid from the cheese making process. After the rennet is added, curd forms. After the curd is harvested, the remaining liquid is called "whey". As another person pointed out, this will contain rennet, an animal product, even in it's powdered form.

Cheers

There are now a number of synthetic (and cheaper) alternatives to animal rennet. Consequently much whey is suitable for veggies.

Unfortunately there's no way of telling unless the packet says so.

Whey powder is generally not veggie. It is the whey taken from cheaper cheese which contains animal rennet.
