Hello,

I have breathing difficulties through the nose especially the left. I've tried nasal sprays, strips to widen the airways of a night to no real effect.

I was referred to a UK NHS ENT specialist by my GP. The specialist said that I have a slightly deviated septum and that correcting it may not provide much benefit. However, I know for a fact that the space in my left nostril is almost half that of my right. I think the whole left side needs correcting.

I can't sleep properly. I dread going to sleep at night because I wake up several times, dry mouths, cracked tongue. Too tired to work properly most days and almost lose jobs.

I can't afford to have this done privately so what can I do?

Is there someone I can complain to like a regulatory body, etc.

Thanks in advance,

Lee.

UpAtNight, thanks for your answer. But you have no idea how much I suffer with this. It affects my life and has made me unhappy for years.

The doctor in question was bordering on rude and didn't seem at all interested in helping anyone to be perfectly honest.

Most insurance plans cover a second opinion. I would discuss it with your GP and see if he/she can refer you to another ENT.

I think if you have never read up on sinus infections, you should seriously do so now. Go right out and buy extra strength acidophilus.

Read the first link below for some ideas for relief, and other things.

Having a deviated septum can lead to infection, which acidophilus will help with. It sounds like you may already have a fungal infection due to it-saying you have a dry mouth/click on second link for symptom info.

Click on the third link, and scroll down to sinusitis.

I really feel for ya, you sound just miserable...

I just know that if you add the acidophilus(take on an empty stomach first thing in the morning with water), and also take vitamin E(which will reduce free radicals in your body), you will feel much better little by little.

Do you get any allergies or hay fever during the year? As you may have a condition where your sinus membranes swell, thus causing a partial or complete blockage! This can be eradicated by a laser operation which only takes a few minutes! They burn away the tissue causing the blockage and Presto! you can breathe again! Get a second opinion, it's worth it for your own piece of mind! Have a good day!

Why do you feel the need to complain to someone or report this doctor? He gave you his professional opinion about your problem. He's a doctor, you're not. Just because you didn't like his answer or you disagreed with him doesn't give you the right to report him. Get a second opinion.
