O.K. heres the poop, I also take amiodarone, unlike the folks that have given previous answers.
I take 200mg in the morning in the middle of breakfast, although I do not have any problems swallowing the tablet would seriously consider consulting a pharmacist-U.S. or chemist-U.K. before altering it into powder form.
As you know this is an antiarrithmic, personally I really don't know if by crushing would give you a jolt of med in that form.
Do you have an I.C.D. ? I had one put in three years ago and got caught up in the recall and had to have the old one replaced. If you do have an I.C.D please E-mail me I would really like to compare notes on the implant and the and how you are dealing with it.

None of the references I checked said anything about crushing and mixing in apple sauce. It is usually okay to crush a tablet that doesn't contain a protective coating or is classified as long-acting, extended release, controlled release, or sustained release. Best thing to do is ask your pharmacist. Amiodarone tablets are scored to allow halving. This is a minor clue that it may be okay to crush them.
One precaution is that Amiodarone should not be taken with grapefruit juice due to the possibility of a interaction.
Another solution is to have your pharmacist compound the 30 day supply of amiodarone pills into a liquid suspension. The suspension is kept in the refrigerator and taken with a spoon. Easy to swallow and no worries.

it's not advisable to mix drugs with anything unless specified.
There are other forms of Amiodarone which can be prescribe according to the patients,in your case it can be admistered by injection but for that you should refer to the doctor in charge of the patient who will have knowlegde of the patient history and follow up.

What should I avoid while taking amiodarone?
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with amiodarone and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking amiodarone.
Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Amiodarone can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors.
This medicine may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.
