I do not want any links to any sites. I would appreciate if someone can give me more of a straight answer than having me navigate to other web pages.
I promised myself that I would only smoke until the end of school. And that being a year away. Are the risks high?

Yes, it would definitely cause some damage to your lungs (not really sure how serious) and it can also stunt your growth. You also need to consider what if you become addicted and end up smoking more than a pack a week and for longer than a year.

I've smoked for about 55 years, one Dr said there is probably some residuals from the first cig still in my lungs.

Keep on smoking and you can be in my "active life"

1. 3 oxygen delivery systems
2. Waste a whole day every week waiting for 02 delivery
3. Can't go anywhere without an 02 tank
4. Can't visit granddaughter cause it's too expensive to fly with 02
5. can't drive more than 2 hours
6. Can't have a normal sex life
7. Can't even go fishing
8. After Ins about $200 a month for Dr and Meds
9. Worst is side effects from drugs that make you sicker
10. I have 35% lung capacity
11. Can't stand long enough to hold a job

when you stop, call me, we can spend 8 hours a day playing chess

There are many people who have never smoked yet, have contracted lung cancer. Many people contract lung cancer from second hand smoke, asbestos, carbon dioxide and many other chemicals which they may come into contact with.

In a genetical point, some people can smoke their entire life into the 90s and never have cancer while others who have never smoked or smoke very little have died early in life. Could this be anything else? Perhaps, but closest guess thus far is genetics.

The bottom line is simple, we are all unaware of what our genetic composition will provide for us. We do have a hint based on the background of our parents health but that is still never a certainty. With that in mind, smoking even one cigarette will increase your chance greatly of contracting cancer. Therefore, the question resorts back to you....why on earth would you be willing to smoke a pack a day and increase the potential of lung diseases, lengthy doctor visits and high financial expenses of medical bills? Is all that a chance you are willing to take?

smoking is a very bad habit, however you have not smoked long enough to have any long term damage. That tends to take years. I was told by a Dr. That it takes 1 month for your lungs to expel and heal itself of 1 year of smoking. So if you smoke for 10 years it will take 10 months to a year to have your lungs fight off the poisons and tars. Whether or not you can run a marathon or hold your breath for along length of time is only a result of hard work and training. I think youll be fine. Congrats on quitting its the best decision you will ever make.

Yes smoking can damage your lungs even if you do it for a short period of time. Why would you even want to smoke? You claim that you will only smoke til the end of the year, cigarettes are highly addictive why do you think so many people smoke and are unable to quit? The brand you chose doesn't matter either they all contain substances that can kill you. I have known people who smoked for a short period of time and gotten lung cancer and Ive known people who smoked all their lives who never had lung cancer or any other condition related to smoking but why would you even want to put yourself at risk?

YES!!! For you and everyone around you. Someone has just died that I know from cancer as a result of Second Hand Smoke.
Smoking is an expensive unhealthy habit.
Invest the money that you would spend for buying the cigarettes each week, the air freshers you would purchase to hide the smells, the doctor fees for all that is involved physically, and the dental costs to whiten your teeth.
It is hip not to smoke!!! Do yourself a favor and take care of you. Many years from now you will realize that your decision not to smoke paid off!

yes it will damage your lungs...put you at risk for throat cancer or lung cancer..not to mention you're more susceptible to pneumonia and bronchitis....even if it doesn't seem like it now...it will take it's toll as you get older...my advice is to quit now...don't make yourself deals about how long you're going to smoke and then quit...the end of teh school year turns into the end of the summer and the end of the summer to the end of the next school year...and then you just never quit...if you're serious about quitting...do it now..the longer you smoke the more problems you'll have and the more addicted and harder it will be to quit..

uh...ya! even if its just one pack. it would still damage your lungs, and damage other people's lungs. The risks for lung cancer would probably be a 7 out of 10.....
