Can you be low on iron and have a normal hemaglobin results?

My sons hemaglobin is fine but i need to get his iron saturation checked he always looks pale and he has learning disabilities which could be linked

No everything I looked up on the internet stated that to determine if someone has low iron is to do a hemaglobin test.So I dont see how you can be low iron but have a normal hemaglobin test.
