No, HIPAA laws protect people's health information. You cannot publicly root through a database to find whether a person has a STD. Some STDs are reportable, but the health department keeps this info under lock and key and in secured databanks. This information is used to public health purposes, usually for epidemiology and disease control. The most common STDs (HPV and herpes) are NOT reportable to the health department.

I would hope you would make the kind of lifestyle choices that would help prevent STDs. Those lifestyle choices include: reducing the number of partners you have, encouraging honestly and open discussion with your partner, getting tested with your partner before having sex, and in general getting tested every 6 months for STDs.

also, if you want to know how a disease gets reported to the health department and how we use that info, read this Best Answer i gave a few months ago: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuQT0tliaFCWNU8_Zjha6mXsy6IX?qid=1006033031802

absolutely not. you can not just look at people's health records cos you want to.

if you don't want an STD, practice safe sex. make no compromises. otherwise, you have no one to blame but yourself.
