Is Dog pneumonia contagious with Humans?
We recently took in a stray puppy and gave it to a good family, while the dog was with us she was coughing and got sick twice, her new owner took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with pneumonia. I have had pneumonia 4 times in the past and I also have a 2 year old who was in contact with the puppy. Could this be passed on to Humans? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Some organisms are shared between canine and human but this is quite uncommon. Pneumonia typically occurs only in humans with a weakness in the respiratory system such as asthma or cigarette smoking. It also tends to occur in the very young (less than 2) and the very 'old' (over 65). Since you have had pneumonia 4 times - if it was properly diagnosed - there must be a reason. The likelihood that you or your 2 year old will develop pneumonia with this exposure is exceedingly small - but not impossible. Thanks for caring for the canine.

It could be past on depending on how close your child was to the puppy. You should get your baby check out as soon as possible.

No. You can't transfer diseases between species. They can't get your infections and you can't get theirs.
