It really depends on how severe the murmur is. Generally you will be watched very carefully and more than likely you will be put on a heart monitor as well as on a fetal monitor....;

30% of newborns in a nursery have heart murmurs. A murmr simply means that we are able to 'hear' the flow of blood and the vast majority of murmurs are 'flow' murmurs which means that they are normal. If your family physician or obstetrician has not commented on your murmur in pregnancy it is likely of the normal variety in which case it is not a factor in pregnancy or labor and delivery. Just to be on the safe side -however - please ask them at your next visit. Congradulations on the upcoming baby.

it's something that u need to make your midwife fully aware of, and it needs to be written down in your official notes, as those get taken to hospital with u when u go into labour. the stress of labour definitely puts more strain on your heart, so they will probably need to monitor u closely to make sure that u and the baby are safe. depending on how bad your condition is, they may even recommend a C section. good luck. hope everything goes well.

I would be iterested to know I have a heart mummer too. I have a childhood mummer and have ecg every year, I have never had any problems and they have never mentioned that it would be a problem should I become pregnant. you are talking about birth? or physical labour I am a farmer lots of physical work and I am fine in that case!!!
