I understand why someone might say this but hopefully no doctor recommends this. HDL is considered good cholesterol and consumption of 1 to 2 ounces (30 to 60 ml - 1 glass wine = 1 beer = 1 ounce 100 proof) of alcohol daily seems to elevate HDL. It seems to be more true with certain red wines than all alcohol and it is highly variable from person to person and as people do not stop after 1 it is not good advice. Indeed - I no longer check HDL instead checking sub types as only HDL2 is helpful. Russo recommends Ruffino Chianti Classico.

Medical research says that 60ml of alcohol is good for the heart. I don't know about the other organs though. I do enjoy a couple of beers once in a while .

Alcohol thins the blood, so the small amount of booze will help reduce the threat of problems.

Though red wine is better for you than whisky as it has more anti oxidants
