Simply try a herbal cough mixture that can give you symptomatic relief as well as prevent further coughing and protect against infections. I recommend Cofrem-5, it has worked wonders for persistent cough and does not cause drowsiness and the sick feeling after most sedating cough mixtures. I found it on www.sindor.com

I had this problem and it ended up being an allergy to soy protein. When I stopped the soy the cough ended in a week. This was after antibiotics and alot of other meds. Now if I get a cough I use Umka cough syrup. It is found at the health food store. So it could be an allergy problem.

i guess the best way for you to do is to visit the doctor... so he may check why your cough persists for a long period of time... do not just take medicine without the doctors prescription as it may cause you reactions .....

Contrary to popular belief, coughing is not a deleterious or pernicious act; coughing actually serves a useful purpose in keeping the respiratory tract free of excessive and harmful secretion. With that in mind, physicians classify coughs in two different categories: 1) productive and 2) unproductive.

The body can react at times to disease in a panic paroxysms of coughing that serves no purpose but to fatigue the patient. That is the only time coughing needs to be surpressed.

A cough can often be only a psychological habit. New research shows self-hypnosis quickly helps kids stop habit coughing.

Additionally, coughs are mostly treated with cough medicines. Dry coughs are treated with cough suppressants (antitussives) that suppress the body's urge to cough, while productive coughs (coughs that produce phlegm) are treated with expectorants that loosen mucus from the respiratory tract.

A recent study indicates that, because of the presence of theobromine in chocolate, 50 grams of dark chocolate may be an effective treatment for a persistent cough. Nevertheless, because you Physician(s) conducted several tests, I will assume bronchial carcinoma, which appears for the first time in middle-aged as an indication, can be ruled out - for the time being.

Another possibility is Bronchiectasis. Bronchiectasis' characteristic is a cough that appears first on lying down at night.

However, be on the look out for other symptoms along with your cough that could be tell-tell-signs of a chronic disease. For example, wheezing; which could indicate heart failure, metallic cough; could indicate an Aneurysm in the chest, or cough with the addition of shortness of breath and fever; which could indicate Aspiration and lipoid pneumonias.

For now, you may want to try using a method of suppressing the cough e.g. an antitussives or dark chocolate, or ask one of the Physicians you visited, "will you perscribe me something for my cough?" Once you supress the cough however, try not to stay on the medication too long (7-10 days) because you could be masking significant symptoms which present themselves via cough - so, contact your Physician at the first sign of any new symptom.

Hope this answers your question!
