Last year I was struck by a car and suffered a major heart attack from the shock and loss of blood. They told me that large areas of my heart muscle were severely damaged. Does the heart muscle ever recover or regenerate or is this my fate till the end of my life??? I now have quite reduced heart function and tire very easily since this happened. I had no prior heart attacks and used to walk freely & now I tire even upon speaking too long. I am not on any heart drugs & none are recommended to me. I also have some blocked arteries also but was told that bypass surgery would have no effect upon the damaged heart muscle. Please share what you know with me - especially want to hear from similar cases.

Dr.G.C.Dh. - I take 1 low-dose aspirin daily. I take an ACE inhibitor & beta-blocker. No nitrates were prescribed. I had angiogram and bypass was suggested BUT they insisted this will have no effect on damaged heart muscle. Prior to heart attack I managed quite well, even with blockages. My lipids and sugar levels are quite normal & always have been.
cholesterol drugs were not given. My pain and gasping is only since the heart attack. MDs say no remedy for the damaged heart muscle necrosis. I was not given nitrates - I only know they develop RAPID tolerance to their effects. I thought perhaps heart muscle might recover, even partially??
Kindly let me know your thoughts & outlook on this generically. I am 50 and retired. in the USA. Prior to car crash I started using ARJUNA from India with great results on my ejection fraction & it eased all chest pains upon exertion. but the MI reversed my progress. I still take ARJUNA, will never stop it. It is superior to digitalis

your heart is a muscle and it will take a little time for you to get back to normal. so be patient. and watch your diet and exercise every day but do not over do it. stop when you feel that you have to. and rest for the day . do this 2 to 3 time a week but start out slow and you will progress before you know it/.
i know that you will be ok and can lead a normal life!!
and be back stronger than ever. but remember to take it slow.
my sister had heart surgery and is slowly recovering and gets around pretty good. and then after surgery i say maybe a mont or so she had to go back in for another surgery but not on her heart. this time it was for gall stones. and now she is leading a normal life.
i know that you are afraid now; but do not worry for i know that you will be back to normal even before you know it! because i have faith in you !!!!

May be I will try to help you by giving some suggestions. In fact you did not mention your sex, age, profession and any types of investigations you have gone through.
Heart attack is defined as damage of heart muscle due to ischemia or hemorrhage. After heart attack you have recovered. In this situation i think your condition will gradually improved but you need some investigations like:
1. Coronary angiogram.
2. Blood for lipid profile and fasting blood sugar.
If coronary angiogram shows any abnormality, you may require to go for bypass or stenting.

In the mean time you will require to take following medicines:
1. Lipid lowering drug preferably atorvastatin
2. Nitrate group drug.
3. Low dose (150mg) aspirin with clopidogrel.
4. Anti hypertensive drug if you have hypertension.
Hope i will be able to give you more concrete suggestion if you let me know your investigation results and of course from which country you are.

I'm not speaking from a previous experience but there are a few things I think you should know. To try to get your overall health better try looking into a nutritious vegan or vegetarian diet. Look up this web site: http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.com/health/Diet/Dean_Ornish_Diet.htm
This doctor Dean Ornish has done numerous studies on reversing serious heart conditions with positive effects. Also look up this book by John Robbins "The Food Revolution".
Damaged heart muscle does not grow back. However, they are doing much research with positive results by using other materials. But to get to a point where you feel more energy and less fatigue, you must concentrate on eating good wholesome foods that will heal your body, especially your heart. Buy a good quality juicer (like Champion) and juice carrots every morning, you may also add apple or other items to this such as a protein supplement. Take lots of vitamin C, more than recommended on the bottle.

Sorry, but once the tissue dies, it stays that way. Ur heart will not heal the damaged areas.
