the drug belongs to a group of drugs called beta blockers and as already stated they are used in high blood preasure although are used for a variety of conditions. they work by supressing the beta-adrenoreceptor in the myocardim (the thick muscle of the heart) by supressing this receptor the heart "pumps" less volume as the contractions are not as strong.
