My resting heart rate seems too high all the time. I am 16 years old, 6 feet tall and 128 lbs., and my resting pulse is always between 130-140 bpm. Also, every so often (while I am resting, not during or after physical activity), my pulse slows and I feel hot with a tightening in my chest. My heart feels like it has trouble pumping, but then it quickly speeds up and I return to normal. These 'episodes' last for only a few seconds. I don't think it's anxiety. My bp is normally between 110/75 and 105/70. Is something wrong, or is it puberty, or something else? Please answer.

Resting heart rates that are consistently high (tachycardia) may indicate a problem, and you should consult a Cardiologist. The normal pulse rate is 60 to 100 beats per minute.
Please see the web pages for more details on Pulse rate.

If your resting heart rate is 130 to 140 you should seek medical attention TODAY as this is decidedly not normal and may be a sign of risk for a heart rhythm disturbance that may result in 'sudden death' - the type of death suffered by young atheletes and treated with auto defibrillators (when available). When the heart rate gets above a certain level it does not have adequate time to fill and less blood circulates. Please seek medical attention TODAY and good luck.

It really could be anxiety but it doesnt hurt to have a medical professional check it out. I have had issues with anxiety in the past and at times have felt my heart was going to beat out of my chest. Also, anxiety can make you sweat and have chest pains. I've experienced these as well. Try to pay attention when this happens to you. Are you thinking heavily about something when it happens? When I've had issues with anxiety I havent even realized I was having issues until I was well into an anxiety attack.

Sounds like stress..... thoughts conscious or unconscious effecting body chemicals=physical symptoms?????

Steven Halpern has a great music CD with frequencies that RELAX and HEAL...... www.stevenhalpern.com
You can find the "Healing Music" CD at a music store or on-line.

Try meditation...... Think happy thoughts, place yourself somewhere you would LIKE to be....

128 pounds sounds thin...... try drinking protein shakes. At 16 your body is growing and could use the protein. Try a peanut butter sandwich once in awhile too.

Drink plenty of water... a body won't function 100% without enough water & rest.

Remember to take a few deep breaths.

Bless you.

Well -- while you certainly are insightful in relating vital signs and an excellent historian as well; you should take this matter up with a physician as soon as possible. While these forums are an excellent mechanism for the exchange of ideas they lack two fundamental requirements for a proper cardiac diagnosis:

1. Physical examination
2. Diagnostic testing

Any impression of problems with your cardiovascular system is a strong indication for immediate medical intervention in person.
