I'm vegetarian and doritos are my favorite but i'm not sure if they're fried in animal fat or not

I called Frito Lay about several of their products and the spokeman told me it is their policy to list all animal ingredients on their products and not hide them behind "natural flavorings". I confirmed this by seeing chicken fat listed as an ingredient in Baked Lays BBQ. So I think Frito Lay stuff is ok if you check the label. Unfortunately I stopped eating BBQ corn nuts as Nabisco would not tell me if their products have animal partslisted as "natural flavors".

Frito-Lay uses only vegetable oils to fry their chips and they also do not use transfats to cook their products. Snacks like these aren't ever going to be exactly health foods, but this company does a decent job holding down harmful ingredients and even controlling sodium levels.

The ingredient label for these chips must show the kind of oil used, so a quick read should give you this information at a glance. If there are ingredients you want to avoid, you need to become a label reader. Be alert to tricks like "no trans fat per serving" meaning less than one gram in whatever they designate as a serving. Anything that says "hydrogenated" or "partially hydrogenated" has transfats.

Also beware of serving size which may be much smaller than what you normally eat or drink.

The resounding answer about the animal fat is no. But as yourelyingivebeenyou referenced, I would still be concerned with possible other ingredients. I'm vegan and wish they didn't include cheese or whey (milk product).

Doritos are tasty. I empathize with you trying to find animal friendly food.

I think that the only kind of vegetarian Doritos are Salsa Verde. All of the other ones have chicken powder in them.

If they were the label would list lard as one of the ingredients. Vegtable oil is cheaper and does not get rancid as quickly..so there is no economic incentive to change to animal fat.

All fruits are fresh vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.

In the superstore, fruits are usually chosen much too soon. Some are rocks, many are bad. Some of the fresh vegetables are typical right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

No,I don't think so. Vegetable oil is usually used for chips.

If you are really concerned, write or email the company & ask. They generally get back to you reasonably soon.

No, they are not. They are fried in vegetable oil.
