It depends...
A strict vegetarian diet has far fewer calories than the average Western Diet and certainly a lot less saturated fat, so vegetarians are not usually obese and generally have a healthier mean weight than meat eaters.
So yes, by maintaining your existing lifestyle and eliminating animal products from your diet, you will lose weight.
The exception is; some vegetarians eat more junk food, candies and other fattening food, more often, after giving up meat. This excess of fast foods can result in an overweight vegetarian and put him/her in the same category as the average American, overweight .
Alcohol has a high calorific content, so watch that.
Oh! There hasn't been a reported protein deficiency in the West since the 1950s. We all, Vegan and all, eat too much protein. As for other nutrients vegetarians get enough of all if they know what they're doing and don't get the junk meat eaters do, cholesterol, etc., so are healthier, more intelligent and live longer.
Welcome to vegetarianism, and a good long life.

It depends on how you eat.. as with anything. If you eat tons of sweets and carbs... then no you wont. If you eat lots of quality veggies and soy protein and limit your fat intake then maybe. It will also depend on how much weight you need to lose! But please do not become a vegetarian for weight loss! There are better ways of losing weight. Try diet and exercise. Watch what you eat and eat lean proteins.... don't over indulge in sweets and get ATLEAST 30 minutes of exercise a day!

It really depends on what you eat.
When you become vegetarian you generally pay more attention to where you are getting your vitamins & such, and therefore also to calories sometimes.
I have both put on & lost weight being a vegetarian. If you live on pizza & pasta, you will probably put on weight (though less than if you were eating pizza & pasta with meat).
Vegetarianism generally does help people maintain a healthy weight. (there are hardly any vegetarian overweight people, i've certainly never met one).

no.... cuz if ur big now and u continue with the same portions not much will change cuz an excess of anything is never good. U can cut down on ur portions with portion control. Besides what's the point being able to eat the products that have natural nutrients if u want substitutes?

i think it depends on how much you exercise. as a vegetarian you will have a much healthier diet, but if you sit around watching tv all day that probably won't help you much. even so, i'm a vegetarian and i have always been a low/average weight so it will keep your weight down. meat also has tons of fat and artery-clogging cholesterol so your heart will be healthier if you don't eat meat, which will make you more able to exercise.

depends. if you don't load down on sweets and junk you don't need then you just may gain some. but if you keep a balanced diet then you could hold a steady wieght. me on the other had, has high matbolism so either way weight is not an issue but if your matablisim is low then loosing a few pounds is to be expected.

It depends entirely on what you eat. If your calories exceed your energy expenditures, you will gain weight. If much of your calorie intake came from fatty meats, you may lose weight.
Anyone who claims an vegetarian diet automatically means weight loss is simply lying to you. I know fat vegetarians and some who are seriously underweight.

Actually, yes! You see, being a vegetarian is eating all vegies, and EVERY SINGLE kinds of vegie is good for you in some way. If you become a vegetarian, you may lose a little weight, and be a little healthier. But if you were born a vegetarian, you'll already be healthy.
