I know he can have halal meat - chicken and beef.
He can't eat pork at all. But what about fish?
Any ideas for supper for the boys?

fish is fine, as long as its not shark or anything meat eating.
fish fingers, beans and chips sounds like a good meal to me.. or simple spagetti with tomato sauce.

Fish is OK. It's something to d with it having gills. Halal meat is killed by cotting the animal's throat but fish have gills so it looks as if it's already been cut.

As everyoe else has said you can always ask his parents (or him - you don't say how old he is). I'm sure they would be pleased you are thinking about him.

Veggi food would be fine so beans on toast, vegi chilli or chips.

You could also get a takeawy from a muslim outlet, curry or kebabs.

He should be able eat the fish, but check the box to see if there is a K amongst the codes. That usually means its kosher and that in the processing the company has adhered to the by-laws of the jewish faith. I know its not Muslim but neither are allowed pork and the company has given them the origin of their products. Therefore, no animal fats would have been used in the processing.

But like one other lady said, ask the parents, that is always the safest bet. You won't offend and they will probably think that you are thoughtful for taking the matter in consideration.

Good luck!

Yes, as long as it isn't cat fish. If you are that unsure, you could always ask his parents. They will tell you exactly what he cannot eat.

You could always make Kosher hotdogs cut up into kraft maccaronni & cheese or turkey tacos, or some type of simple chicken helper or beans & rice with beef sausage.

You might want to go on the safe side and try making a meal that doesn't have any type of meat.

Something like penne pasta with frozen spinach, stewed tomatoes and mozarella cheese baked in the oven until nice and bubbly. My son likes that dish a lot. I find that he likes it even more when he can help make dinner.

Hope this helps.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Depends on if it is truly real slices of fish fillets, cut and battered in "finger" form, then yes - shouldn't be a problem

HOWEVER, is it leftover bits and pieces of fish meat that is held together in "finger" form by any kind of geletin (like chicken McNuggets)? Then NO!!!!!

Gelatin, unless it is vegetable based (yes, this DOES exist!), is forbidden in the Muslim diet.

According to Mohammed Hocine Benkheira, in his article about Islamic taboos and meat in the October-December 2001 edition of Slow Food, domestic animals are superior to game, and fish, rabbit, and goat meat are undesirable. Furthermore, "all carnivores are forbidden, whether quadrupeds or birds, as well as - except in special circumstances - rodents, reptiles, insects except the Acridoidea, or grasshoppers, and equine species except horses, which can theoretically be consumed"(70). Fish is condemned by many Muslims to be indigestible and even harmful, but if nothing else, it is sometimes embarrassing to eat. The goat, too, should be avoided, as it is attached to a hefty load of negative lore. According to Benkheira, the 10th century writer Qutayba wrote that the goat meat was infamous for causing depression and forgetfulness, and stimulating the production of black bile.

You're a good mom and a considerate host to be asking whether this young friend can eat this.

I agree with the other poster who suggested that you just ask. The kid might not like fish (a lot of kids seem to be fussy this way).

In any case, it's always good to ask. If it isn't a dietary restriction that one should be aware of, there are a potential host of allergies that you may not be aware of unless you ask first.

Good on ya!

Fish yes, pork no. I once lived in a Muslim country.
If he's used to hot curries, he might think its not cooked properly if it doesn't taste spicy.

The best thing to do is to ask him if he eats fishfingers. Because
1. It could be against his religion
or
2. He probably just doesn't like them

(PS I'm not saying that your cooking is bad)!
;)
