I am a dietetics and med student. Please take this as an opinion only and not as medical adivice as I am not an RD or MD yet. Unfortunatley, there is not much you can do preventitive treament if the medications you mentioned have not worked. However, there could be fluid in your lungs triggering asthma attacks more frequently. Try using a hypotonic nasal spray (i.e. Ocean nasal spray available in most pharmacies or creating your own with basic epsom salt and water). It will break apart anything in your lungs, sinuses and nose giving you more relief. Have your doctor check you out for any infections that may be in your lungs and ask about going on an anti-biotic and steroid combination (a good example is Levaquin 500 mg and Prednisone 20 mg). As far as trying to do the preventitive maintnence, Asmanex is a really good steroidal inhaler (similar to Advair) but I think it works better then the Advair. Talk to your doctor about refering you to an asthma and allergy specialist as they have a greater expertise regarding your respiratory health then a regular MD. Hope this helps!

As the others have mentioned be taught as a lot as which you could about asthma. However i might also ask the surgeon lots of questions, and even ask for a asthma management plan, if he/she has now not already given you one. Given that asthma puffers come in metered doses and is a drug that is self administered, that's you are taking it when wanted, so the threat of part serious side affects are minimal. And anybody diagnosed with bronchial asthma will have to learn the best way to appreciate indicators & signs of bronchial asthma attack, and methods to use asthma preventer & asthma reliever/rescue remedy accurately, as good as a asthma administration plan written up. The asthma preventer helps avoid an bronchial asthma assault, typically taken a few times a day. Some of these medicines require you to rinse or gargle after taking the treatment to restrict yeast/thrush illness, a further part have an impact on is a froggy/hoarse or sore throat, another medications such Prednisone may just reason weight achieve, however is frequently most effective prescribed for brief intervals as a result of aspect influences (i've been on prednisone many mostly to aid with asthma and allergies). The asthma reliever/rescue medication which is a rapid acting treatment, which should be carried round with you continually, which helps relieve an bronchial asthma assault. The part influences of a relievers/rescue treatment may also be trembling, feeling anxious, multiplied heart cost, however when having a main attack it may be taken each few minutes except emergency offerings arrives, and will not intent any severe facet affects aside from trembling and so forth, or you comply with your asthma management plan as set out by using your general practitioner. Stories have proven using a spacer in a asthma attack are very mighty, which is why ER's use them, instead than use nebulisers, which are bit fiddly and high-priced. In Australia emergency asthma management is 4 puffs (1 at a time) wait 4 minutes, if no growth take an additional four puffs and phone emergency offerings, and preserve giving each four puffs every four minutes.

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.

If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.

The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.

Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).

You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.
