Most chicken flavored soup has chicken fat in it so it is not vegetarian. If you read labels, you will also find that most national brand soups have animal products. You are safe with Amy's soups and making your own soup using vegetable stock and broth and there is a "no Chicken" broth made by Imagine (I think) that can be found in health stores and natural markets.

If you are looking for technicalities to get around vegetarianism then just eat the chicken. Having chicken broth defeats the spirit of being a vegetarian.

If you eat chicken, you arent vegetarian. The idea is not to eat animals. By eating chicken based soups you are creating a demand for chicken carcasses. I stopped eating Baked Lays because they have chicken fat in them. Yuck!

if the flavouring is made from real chicken, then no.
if the flavouring is merely a chemical that isn't derived from actual chicken, then sure.
i eat chicken soup that is made with a chemical to reproduce the 'chicken' flavour. it's just as good as the real thing. in fact, better, cos there's no guilt from the death of an animal
oh, and Laura S is wrong.
if you're an ovo-lacto vegetarian, you eat eggs and dairy, but NOT chicken, as it is still a meat.

I never have, do you mean chicken broth or just the flavor? Because if its just the flavor of chicken, and its not actually not a chicken product I do not think there is anything wrong with it. My tofu turkey had some kind of turkey esscence in it.

If the flavoring is chemically- rather than organically-based, yes. However, most chicken flavoring is based on chicken broth.
