It may be that you have a sinus infection. Most recently an inexpensive treatment to help clear the mucus and thin it out is to do nasal washings with water. I'm sure you can get some saline nasal spray over the counter. Mucolytics may help to thin out secretions...particularly if it is in your chest.
Stay away from milk products as these tend to make the mucus more tenacious and more difficult to cough up.
good luck

N-acetyl cysteine, or NAC, breaks down mucus in a serious way. It's a naturally occuring chemical, being the acetylated form of an amino acid found in all complete proteins. You can get it over the counter. Aloe concentrated and flavoured with mango (?), with citric acid added doesn't sound very natural? Go for the NAC if you can find it. It's a molecule that cuts di-sulphide bonds and thins mucus. It also supports your liver and protects your kidneys, and is a potent antioxident. Trials have indicated that it might help people with bipolar and schizophrenia.

Stay away from hot steam, you'll get broken capillaries on your face. Have you tried Mucinex? I really like it for post nasal drip, but you have to remember to drink the whole 8 ounces of water when you take it.
Then again you may not have mucus at all, but swelling or some other problem that a doctor would need to look at. It sounds very uncomfortable.

I had sinusitis bad for awhile, and a doctor wanted me to buy slightly salty water. Nah, I said, I can make my own salty water. So instead of the expensive spray that was only salty water, I took a medicine cup, put a wee bit of salt in it, filled it with warm water and snuffed it up my nose. Cleaned things out good - a touch on the gross side, but it does clean things. That and generic expectorant, called guaifenisen syrup, couple teaspoons full, with a glass of water - it makes one's mucus watery and less sticky so you can cough real easy and expel mucus. Works on all mucus.

Me too. I think it is leftover from my cold I had two weeks ago. I find that
using a eucalyptus bath oil helps. If you have some mint tea it would help.
Or if you have some vicks vapo rub you could use that to clear your nasal
passages. I think the problem is in my nose not my throat. It just trickles
down into my throat to make me cough, etc. Maybe a decongestant would
help. I don't take medication, but I think it might help.

I would suggest you see a doctor. It doesn't sound like it is moving through, does it? You may have a growth back up in there. Best of luck to you!!
