I've had a cough for almost two weeks. Soon followed a sore throat. I went to the doctor and he gave me some cheratussin to take before bed and told me to sleep with a vaporizer. But none of that is helping. At night, I cant sleep because I cough so much that I choke and throw up my dinner before midnight. I've tried everything (cough drops, orange juice/water every hour, saltwater gargle, drinking tea, rest, etc...), but nothing seems to be working. Any help?

Two weeks is too long for a cough. Time to go back to the doctor, or at least give him or her a call.

Explain that your cough is worse and you're coughing so hard WITH the cough syrup, that you throw up. If he doesn't respond, see another doctor.

There are prescription medicines that can help.

Mix 1/2tsp salt and 8oz. warm water, cup your hand and pour some into it, put your finger on one nostril to keep it closed, put your nose into the salt water in your hand and inhale through the nose, it will burn a little, and you will feel it run through the sinus and down the throat, do not swallow! spit it out. then do it again, then change sides and do the other nostril. Believe me it will end the cold! And it's great for a sinus headache. Don't be a woosey about it! just do it! It's a nasal douch. Feel better!
