My 4 year old is on her second round of antibiotics for pneumonia. By the time she is done, she will have been on antibiotics for 20 days. She is starting to get better but gets exhausted so easily. She has been closely watched by her doctor being seen once and twice a week.
I would say if your child is not feeling better by Monday, I would call the doctor for a followup appointment. Your child may need breathing treatments (like my daughter is getting). Your child may need different medication also.
But it will take several weeks for your child to get back to normal. A repeat chest x-ray should be done along with a followup doctors appointment to make sure everything is better.
I would also use a vaporizer in your child's room if your not already. My whole house smells of Vicks but it needs to be done to help my child.
Good luck!!!

Probably a few weeks. My daughter is 2 and has had pnemonia 4 times, 2 times being this year. She is always stuck in the hospital with hers because she has a ventilator and a trach. I would say in a week if he isnt feeling ANY better to call your doctor. Perhaps a diffrent antibiotic would be prescribed but it can take weeks to feel all better. My daughters doctor always makes her do a chest xray after 30 days to see if she is better

Not for a long time. A child of 3-years, I am surprised they did not hospitalize your child. In most cases, it will take 2-weeks for your child to feel better. He/She must have had a terrible "cold" for a long time! as that is the only way a child this age will develop pneumonia. Take extra care for now on that your child's chest is warm, scarf, hat, mitts, when you go out. Pneumonia has a way of comming back, over and over again. Make sure you have your child x-rayed after he is better, to check that NO SCARS have been left on his LUNGS! He will need lots, and lots of rest. Jello, ice cream, puddings, soup - rice, nothing too heavy until he is better. Give him/her a big hug and kiss from me. Good Luck! ps - no baths for awhile, just sponge bath your child. Keep him/her good and warm.
