You should have a lovely gt together (house warming party)
* clean and organize your new space
* make t pretty with some flowers and scents
* cook some finger food appetizers
* have some wines and beers or liquors if in your budget
****AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL ****
*** tell your close friends about it and tell them hints of what are you missing in the apt. so they can buy it and bring it to you as a house warming gift

A housewarming is a party you throw to bless your new surroundings. Sometimes friends will bring something you need or a token of sorts. There is never any need to have your place finished before this occurs. In fact, it is to aid in your feeling at home there, and to have your new surroundings warmed by your friends. These parties work best when they are kept casual. Trying to serve a sit down dinner when everyone needs to be there at the same time is over doing it. It's enough work getting situated. Just serve some snack type finger food, if you can, and tell people to bring what they like to drink. If anyone likes to cook and offers help, they can bring a snack or dessert.

We are in the same situation. We bought a foreclosed home and are doing a major rehab project on it that will probably span a few years. We haven't yet had a housewarming party, but we did have a small barbecue in the part of the home that is not under construction. We gave tours showing what we had worked on and what we plan on doing. Don't throw a housewarming party in another house. That defeats the purpose. A "house warming" welcomes friends to the new home and gives them a chance to see it. If you do it at another location, it's just a solicitation for gifts. Mucho tacky.

No, you are supposed to have your own house warming party. Just have some platters of cheese, spreads, and maybe a sliced ham and crackers for people to snack on. Have wine and beer for them too. They should bring gifts for the new place. Keep it all very low key. It's just a gathering of friends to help you celebrate your move.

Actually, you're supposed to host your own party. You have to prepare the food (Mostly just something simple like finger foods and chips and dip, and maybe a pasta salad.)

You invite your friends and family and they bring gifts for your new home, or they can bring a dish or a bottle of wine or liquor. Have a good time and I hope you get some really nice gifts!!!!!

It's a chance to show off your new place and show everyone how well you are doing for yourself. Do it in the early afternoon so you just have to make some appetizers. You don't necessarily need any decorations for a house warming party either.

I always thought it was suppose to be hosted by friends or family at your new home. Maybe they want you to host it yourself to be sure that you're cool with the idea. I don't believe in them anymore, because once I had a lot of children and needless to say; I was doing some serious cleaning and minor repairs. But, it was fun.

A housewarming is one of the exceptions to the rule; you really CAN throw your own.

It can be pot luck, or you can throw out dips & chips, or you can provide as much as you can cook. It's a freestyle event, so to speak, and can be however you want it.

Congratulations!

It is to show everyone how well you are doing. They are fun. I definitely reccommend it if your house is in order and you feel comfortable with everything. You will enjoy it. Make sure everyone brings a personalized dish :0
