Well, one thing tell them that MCd's are not that Healthy and you shouldn't be pressured what you don't want to eat. I do want to say I am more of a veggie eater then meat eater but, I eat meats on occasion. Right now I am anemic so I need to eat the meats that have iron in them. I am thankful also if we have meats and sides in the house it's food. I am not all the way veggie but, I am into veggie and vegan and Organic foods.

Just do it for a month and it will become natural. I used to think that I would miss meat but after several years it now really grosses me out. If I had to pick between eating cat dung or a steak, I would pick the cat dung. Even the smell of a deli at a supermaket is nasty and you can literally pick up the scent of rotting flesh. It sound like you feel guilty about eating it which shows you have compassion. Visit vegetarian websites often and listen to vegan podcasts like veganfreak radio and goveg with Bob Linden. The more you really know about meat, the less appealing it will be. Hang in there. Its like quitting smoking. Its a bit hard at first but after you have done it for a while its great!

If you keep eating meat and cannot stop, then perhaps a vegetarian lifestyle is not for you. Some people just LIKE meat.
As for your family members, ask them to respect your choice and stop being childish about it. But if you are trying to succeed at changing your eating habits just to prove to someone else that you can do it, that's the wrong reason to be changing.
Sad but true: families are the worst saboteurs when it comes to a family member going on a diet, or trying to quit smoking (or whatever). So, next time one of them says something, ask them why they are trying to sabotage your intentions, and why they think they have the right to.

In a word? Habit.
Look at all the fast food chains and ask yourself how many have veggie healthy alternatives? Taco Bell bean burritoes, Cheese Pizza from Pizza Hut,... um... baked potato from Carl's Jr. Not many and not really healthy.
There are a lot of regular foods you can make meat-free even when eating out; spaghetti with marinara sauce for example. Don't be afraid to ask the waiter to modify the entree~ most will. Also you could make lasagna and MorningStar Farms has oodles of great alternatives. They're pricey but great when you feel the urge to nibble on a shank. The secret is having them around before-hand.
If you are visiting family why not introduce them to a veggie lasagna (Moosewood has a great recipe)? When they give you grief you can always admit its hard but them waving it under your nose makes it harder and if you throw in that you are trying to be healthy and would appreciate their support, maybe they'll quit being buttheads. If you were trying to give up smoking I bet they wouldn't act that way.
Be strong!

You can do anything you put your mind too... If you want to give up meat, just take little baby steps to get there, eat meat once or twice a week for about a year, then when you're ready to give it up, it will be easy for you because you're used to eating more vegetables and fruits often on your meatless days, and when you do make that transition to become vegetarian it will be an accomplishment, but just remember to take Vitamins and Supplements to get enough b12 in your system so that your nervous system and brain function properly... Remember don't rush into it, baby steps, and just do some research on it.

i grew to become into having an extremely not easy time getting started too. i grew to become right into a vegetarian for 6 years and then stopped. i found it very not easy again decrease back to being a veg. What labored for me grew to become into I transitioned, I took an entire month of ingesting no meat yet fish. After the 30 days I decrease the fish out. And substituted it with pretend meats like boca hen and morning celeb farms Baron Verulam. The pretend meats helped plenty I even use pretend floor pork in my spaghetti sauce now. i think of what helped me grew to become into putting a intense purpose and sticking to it.

For every person on here that has made comments about protein coming from meat. There are loads of perfect complete proteins vegans and vegetarians have. Meat raises acidity in the blood so your bones release stored calcium to balance your blood PH. This causes osteoporosis.
For everyone who said that our teeth are designed to eat meat, I would recommend you try and chase and kill an animal using only your teeth... don't forget to try and bite through the leathery skin of cattle that is the hardest ;)
Anyone who says they care about animals and still eats animals is lying to themselves.
Some great protein choices totally animal free are Tofu, beans, rice, wholegrains. There is protein in almost everything! - even potatoes :)
If you must visit McDonalds why not go for a veggieburger?
If you keep to your decision to give up the flesh your friends will respect you even if they tease you at first.
In terms of healthy living, almost every "fad" diet these days tells you to quit the meat and dairy because it is the most healthy option. If you crave meat get some great meat substitues in the house at all times that way you will always have something on hand to help you along.
Good luck and ignore these stupid people on here using god as an excuse to support an industry which kills billions of animals every year. Not to mention the amount of people hospitalised with bowel cancer and other meat related illnesses!

1)You grew up eating meat.It may be hard to stop doing something when you are different from everyone in your house.I got lunch money from my parents everyday or had my own money and rode my skateboard to the store and bought a foods I could eat,or went to subway and bought an all veggie sandwich.Or I look for something in our pantry I could eat,like fruits and veggies,peanutbutter and jelly,beans and rice,you know really simple stuff.My family eats vegan one day out of the week,and I always cook that meal,so maybe you can cook for your family once a week or something.
2)I don't know if you like the taste of meat or not or if you crave it.But everyonce in a while I'll have a vegan version of something old I used to eat,like chili dogs,I'll use vegetarian chili beans and a tofu hotdog and it is pretty much the same as the real thing.So if you crave meat then you can try doing that.Or on the day you feel like having a hamburger,have a hamburger,if you have 1 hamburger that doesn't stop your goal towards being a vegetarian,if you keep doing that you cravings will get further and further apart until they are eventually gone.
3)The most difficult thing in your situation would probably be your family.I know because I went through the same thing.My family thought it was weird,they always thought I was on a diet(I don't even have much weight I could lose,I wasn't even chubby or fat)I get grossed out each time i see my family eat fast food,it is so gross and unhealthy for you.just watch SUPER SIZE ME,or the movie FAST FOOD NATION,which just came out.Think about that if you want Mcd's or when your family is eating it.
4)Learn how to cook.Before I could only microwave foods,now I'm practilly a better a cook than my mom.I make my own recipes and foods up,I also modify "American" favorites,like spaghetti,nachos,tacos and burritos,and pizza to make them vegan friendly.I also cook most of the foods I will eat during the week on the weekends,so when I get hungry or when I come home from school I can just put it in the microwave and eat it.
5)I don't know if you are old enough to have your driver's license or not,but once I got mine it made it SO MUCH EASIER.Now I can go out and buy my own food and not stuck at home with an empty pantry and leftovers in the fridge.
6)The last thing I did that can help you out is to plan what foods you eat out.
here's my eating plan for the weekdays,on the weekends it easier for me to cook or buy food
b.fast=fruit smoothie and toast or baggel with jelly(since your veggie you can have eggs or cereal with milk)
snack=nuts(almonds,sunflower seeds,cashews,any knids of nuts)
lunch=pb & j or something simple
snack=raw fruits or veggies
dinner=whatever I cooked on the weekend(stuff like spaghetti,veggie spring rolls,beans and rice)
I hope that helped you out.

just get over the "hump" once you stop for a while it gets easier. If you cave in don't give up. Don't eat in the same room with people eatting meat at first. Dont buy meat (then you wont have it to cook). talk to you family honestly, if they respect you they wont keep trying to tempt you to do something you don't want to.
soy (fake meat) is really good for you. eat one of those when you crave real meat.

depends. Why are you trying to become a vegetarian? If it's because you feel it's healthier, yeah don't go there. White meat (note I didn't say meat in general, red meat is horrible for you) is very beneficial to the body. If it's because you feel that it's cruel to eat animals, then it should be easier to stop. You need to step back and think, why am I trying to do this? also, tell your family to stop, that it's just not funny. There's not much else I can tell ya. good luck!
