If you cannot routinely stabilize your blood sugar, you should not try to drive a large vehicle. You could kill yourself or others if you are not stable. If you are not able to pass the DOT test, go to your local vocational rehabilitation agency and ask to get services to help you to prepare for and find a job where you can have the accommodations you need to keep your glucose levels stable. Driving short or long haul is not conducive to eating, taking meds or monitoring your blood sugar on a regular basis. Please consider doing something else.

There are 2 common ways your doctor will test you for low blood sugar. With the use of a gluco-meter or by drawing blood from a vein in your arm The gluco-meter method uses a lancet to poke your finger to get a small amount of blood - the blood from your finger is then put on a test strip - and the meter will read your blood sugar level. You doctor might want to go with the method of drawing blood from a vein so he/she can do a CBC, (complete blood count), and order a panel of tests to check for other things that might be going on. Please don't worry too much. I know it's scary, but diabetes is very manageable these days, (if you have it). I hope you don't. Take care!!

If you are diabetic, follow your doctor's instructions. If not, you can't. Why would you need to lower your blood sugar to pass a DOT test?

You need to talk to your doctor. Do not OD on insulin. You need to understand your blood sugar and how to keep in control. It is very dangerous if you don't understand it.

You need to eat six small meals a day. Check you sugar as recommended and take you insulin.

The ODOT will not license diabetics. The "quickest" lowering of blood sugar is about 1 hour by humalog insulin.
