When the day is done and you decide to let them take the remainder of the food home,Do you leave the food as it is and just cover it up?..or do you take a fork/spoon and tossle it up and pat it down first(practically play with it)before covering it up and givingit back to your guest?

I would just cover it up, and thank them.

I do not enjoy having leftovers around, so before the party I buy some cheap foam divided containers, and then I encourage the guests to take second helpings of the food home. This way everybody gets a little more of the dishes they really enjoyed. It makes cleaning up easy also.

Most people will bring their food offering covered, so simply cover it back up with said cover and they will fend for themselves. hopefully you have invited a variety of folks to your gathering and someone will request to take leftovers. At which time all that brough food will offer theirs! Then you simply supply said person with a disposable container and they will make a doggie bag to go.

Oh my gosh you are too cute! I have dogs so I'd do the whole *point finger-Look over there* and give it to the dog trick. I think covering it up is sufficient. Anything else is a bit fussy and might give the impression you are nervous.
... but you're not, you self assured independent woman!

I wouldn't rearrange the food. Just cover and tell them thanks for bringing the dish, and that you wanted to make sure they got their dish/pot/pan back. Hopefully they labeled the bottom with their name. I hate it when I end up with other peoples' dishes because they hate to ask for it back and I have no clue who it belongs to!
