of turkey and ham they suspect of being full of listeriosis, a potentially fatal disease. cause by the germ Listeria.
They also said that if conditions in these animals didn't improve that meat was soon going to be to dangerous to eat.
We need to grow veggies in pots and wash dry lentils good before eating. How many out there got sick on the Turkey, or the ham?

i agree with you 110%. for those of you who point to the recent spinach recall and say it happens to plants too, how do you think the e-coli got to the spinach in the first place? besides, you don't need to thoroughly cook plants to make sure you get all the disease-causing germs out, do you? there are at least thousands more cases of meat-related food poisoning then there are plant-related food poisoning. and not just that, it has been scientifically proven that eating red meat causes cancer. but of course, this will not deter very many people from eating meat, so go ahead, eat away and hope you don't have to suffer the consequences later.

I had turkey yesterday and it was ok and I didn't get ill. However, Your right with the turkey and Ham and beef issues. I am finding the more of the meats are bad because the factory farmers don't give a care about us that is eating it. I rather have veggies and fruits and nuts and breads and stuff for a meal if that was the case.

Really take a look at the quesion asked it's not like this person is saying anything negative about those who chose to eat meat yesterday...I think that this is a very interesting statistic you bring up. I am of the OPINION that everyone needs to stop being so defensive about their diet choices and really understand why we are having problems with our food supply.

I don't want to die just because I choose to go out and eat a grilled chicken spinach salad that some moron didn't wash well enough/cook long enough in the restaurant kitchen.

Food safety is important, and we need better inspections and safeguards, but your argument for vegetarianism is pretty foolish. Using the same criteria, because of the spinach contamination recall, we should all be strict carnivores.

You sound paranoid, quite frankly. Food safety is more that growing in pots and washing lentils. You could still get sick doing either of those things, depending on the soil and food handling.

How about real reasons, instead of hysteria?

And spinach is any less risky?

You be you I'll be me.

I have never been sick from ANY meat product. I know safe handling practices for all foods including veggies & fruits. Did you know that you have to wash the outside of even fruits & veggies you peel? Yeah. There are no bathrooms in the fields.

Better stick to what you know.

to all the people who answered "what about the e.coli spinach" that was caused by animal poop, the bacteria from poop(mainly cows) went into the irrigation systems used by farmers to grow the spinach, and by the use of that water infected with the poop it caused the plant to contain e.coli,so if the animals weren't factory farmed in the first place the e.coli in vegetables wouldn't have happened. And to your question I read about that on that AOL news when I signed on,just a few weeks ago I read about beef being recalled.

...as compared to how many people have gotten sick from tainted spinach, lettuce, tomatoes???

Sorry sport, it's not just meat that gets contaminated. Besides, if you espouse growing your own vegetables, then you may as well mention that raising your own livestock is equally safe. Not to mention, healthier than the commercial, hormone and antibiotic-laden meats. I'll even include "more humane."

Nothing wrong with the choice of being vegetarian, but if you're going to throw stones...

OK - but the same issue is effecting out vegetable supply - or do you forget the spinach and lettuce recall from a few weeks back. Your lifestyle choice is just as risky- If you are not careful in preparation and where you obtain the foods you can become just as ill. There is also more risk to a vegetarian of certain nutrient deficiency.
I respect your choice to a vegetarian lifestyle - please respect mine.

nothing is good to eat anymore. the spinach problems were caused by animal crap (literally) because farmers are growing too many cows and pigs, and all their diseases are starting to effect the foods that are good for us. i think we just need to grow our own food.
