Walking is a very effective way to bring down BP. Also, try drinking lots of water. You can add a lemon to your water, lemon is a natural diuretic (sheds excess fluids from your body). Also, avoid caffeine, i.e. coffee, soda, chocolate... Weight will also effect BP. And find something you enjoy, something that relaxes you, something that is soothing... music, TV show, sitting with pets (it is scientifically proven that pets lower a person's BP), working on a hobby, going to a place in nature that is peaceful... anything, and try to fit it into your routine a few times a week. Stress is also a big factor in BP. Are you stressed? If so, find some way to let it out, safely. Anger is another cause... But exercise and increasing your water will be big keys. It is a lifestyle change. And don't forget to cut down on your salt intake. Check the labels for sodium (salt) and don't add more to your food.

If your blood pressure is only slightly elevated (less than 139/89), then you can probably bring it down by eating a healthy diet and exercise. If it is higher than that, diet and exercise alone are probably not enough and you will need some blood pressure medicine. High blood pressure can lead to some very nasty problems, such as stroke, diabetes, and heart disease. I treat people with these problems all the time. Trust me, it is so much better to just take a blood pressure pill and watch what you eat than to try to get back your function after a bad stroke or heart attack. Ask your doctor what you can do to help lower your blood pressure.

Mine plummeted 30 or 40 points as a result of going on an elimination diet. This cut out yeast, msg, wheat and dairy items. Other people have found the same. You'll find a lot of helpful info. from fellow sufferers on http://www.healthboards.com/ under the high/low blood pressure heading.

Always control your breathing. Take full slow breaths of air. Chances are that you never pay attention to the fact that you breathe fast shallow breaths. Also, walk at least 30 minutes a day with your heart rate above 120. Allow warm up, and cool down time on each side of the 30 minutes. It will take time, but it will help.

Run every other day for 30-45 minutes. That's it! People will say if it's genetic then only medicine will work blah, blah, blah. I have had high BP since I was 22. It's genetic. Just exercise, RUN! And it will be fine. Keep a eye on it!

best advice would be to cut out all unnecessary fats and salt from your diet, also keep busy with physical things (walking, treadmill, swimming) drink plenty of water to keep you feeling full and eat a healthy diet. if it doesn't bring it down to normal it should help lower it but check with a doctor before you do anything as you may need medication
