I became a Peta member because I think that abuse towards animals should not be tolerated by any means. You should make your own decision and not base it on what your family has to say. I think that you're at a great age to join Peta. A lot of kids (and adults) nowadays don't realize how the meat they eat end up on their plates. It's very disgusting and I believe if we spread the word we can really make a change. The only thing I could recommend for you to do is inform yourself as much as possible on the topic because people will come out with some weird questions or arguments.

Good Luck =>

Why do You want to join PETA? Is it to be an animal rights activist? If so, there are many animal rights activists out there to join. Only PETA is known because of the outrageous acts they do to protest. And that is why they do the things they do, to get attention in the media and get their message across by any means possible. And all the other animal right activist groups are not known and not outrageous in their actions of protest. You need to think about why you want to be with PETA and why not any of the other groups? Is it the organization and its famous reputation or do you want to help animals? How about a local group? Or is PETA a local group for you? It is easier to join PETA since they are very organized and big, but what about some local farm sanctuary? or humane society? or some other local grassroots effort?
PS. You will hear about bad things and good things from anything here in life. Just because one person goes a little far in making his/her point known, doesn't wipe out all the responsible work being down by the thousand people in the organization. It is up to you to decide what you want to put your energy into doing and then doing it.

You don't have to join Peta to adopt a vegan lifestyle. I would suggest trying that first. Unfortunately a lot of people your age have trouble with it because the people around them don't support it.

Remember that Peta is against all animal products, including milk products and cheese (which are allowed on most standard vegetarian diets).

How about you cut out all the animal products in your food (this even includes jello cause its made with gelatin from animal sources), and in your soaps, shampoo, etc. If you find it works well for you to do this, then you can consider joinging Peta....but try the lifestye for a month or so first.

I´m not.
But looks like you already made your choice.
Your aunt highlighted the good things now you need to highlight all the bad things about Peta.
I think they are bunch of extremist that should learn a few things about ethics towards others not just animals.
Buy the way did you know that cows fartings contributes to global warming and so does vegans since they only eat plants which are natural air scrubbers. So the way i see it because of Peta we have more air pollution and because of that we have more lung cancer (something to think about).
Then again global warming is good - without it there would be another Ice Age.
It´s not that i hate everything about Peta. The nudity is cool & I like their ads to (couse of nudity), but everithing else is kinda weird.
Don´t get me wrong i like animals...on my plate, espetiali in the stake form-rare. (hahaha a little meat eaters humor can´t hurt enione, well exept Peta membes maybe).
Something for your motivation:
Give no decision till both sides thou'st heard.
-Phocylides-
And if you decide wrong we do learn from mistakes.

i think you should do some research. see what peta has to say and what other people have to say about peta and why they feel that way (whether they agree with peta or not). look at the concrete facts, not just opinions. overall, i think peta is doing a great thing by helping animals and is often overly-criticized by people who eat meat.

I am a Peta member and proud, They are such advocates and taught me alot . When I approach a meat eater - I don't feel shame in myself.
They know how to work the good - shut down abusers and breeders
also educate the public. Many other things, I have been to their seminars .......so educational.

i agree with the rest of your family. PETA is a ton of extremists who will go to any lengths to guarantee the rights of animals. They are against animal testing to find cures to deadly diseases.
