A French restaurant is a "bistro" (without the "t" at the end) although it can also be called a... "restaurant" because "restaurant" is a French word.
The Italian translation is "ristorante" although the Italians can also use "bistro" or "trattoria".

The equivalent to the French "bistro" is in my opinion the Italian "trattoria".
A bistro or a trattoria are in my opinion not just straight forward places to consume food, they do have rather some special atmosphere, where you get a delicious meal and "dine and wine".
Bon appetite !
