Is it essential for your survival to own a scarf (i'm just taking scarf for example) that matches every outfit?

Thanks in advance!

Salaam,

I'm a man but I think I can answer this too.I've got 7 pairs of boots/shoes.

One pair of rubber hunting boots
One pair of insulated pack boots
One pair of super insulated boots for cold weather
Two pairs of work boots
One pair of dress shoes
One pair of leather moccasains

Each of these has their purpose. If I didn't hunt I'd have four pairs. But If a person earns their money through their hard work shouldn't they be able to buy themselves what they wish (legal things)?

I realize in Islam(I should mention that I'm not muslim) you are required to give Zakat, but after doing that it should be enough yes?You shouldn't have to live poor if you don't have to.Humbly yes,but not dirt poor.

I try to help my fellow Woman/man as much as I can, when I can,be it helping them with work or lending an opinion/ear.Some folks are greedy/materialistic and I pity them.I have my materialistic moments at times, but it doesn't run my life.

Good question.

Very true. But wouldn't Jesus rather want me to teach the man to fish instead of feed him for a day?The Lord helps those who help themselves.

Though I love shoes, I only have really few pairs of them and I wear them until they're really worn. When I buy shoes, I make it sure that I really make good use of them. But why not if you have passion for shoes and got the money? Maybe someday when an opportunity comes, I'll buy more shoes than I have now lol. About the scarf thing, I think that's a little obsessive over fashion. But as I've said, if it's your passion, then why not... I have a passion for makeup so I often tend to buy in an impulse.. besides I want to be a makeup artist so they're gonna be put into use. But if you really do have the feeling that sometimes it's getting too much, then maybe it's time to tame your passion a little bit. Why don't you mix and match? I'm sure your shoes will really go well with your other outfits!

I only have about 8 pairs of shoes/boots...(I have a couple of pairs that are for dressy occasions, a couple of pair of tennis shoes, and I have a couple of pair of boots that are dressy and some are work boots.)
I am one of those ladies that keeps a purse until it falls apart and it definitely doesn't match all my outfits all the time.
Now, as far as some celebrities that own all these expensive purses and shoes like closets full, I think they are wrong. With the amount of money they spend on a purse alone, it could have been used to help the needy.
I think I am answering your question correctly. I am getting your point now, and I have only what I need, the shoes I have are used for the lifestyle that I have. I do find that alot of times people become too materialistic in their needs, and yes, we don't need a pair of shoes to match every outfit to survive, my husband is a good example, has a pair of tennis shoes he wears everyday, and a pair of boots to work with our horses in.

I don't need anby of my possessions at all. To be honest I could live almost as well if I lost one of my eyes and my whole left arm. All I need to enjoy life is my library card and enough food so that I am not hungry. I suppose I need my hat too - it is very useful to me every day. Also unless the law changes I will probably need at least one set of clothes or I will be arrested for public nudity.
Most of my clothes are very cheap and some are over 10 years old and very scruffy. I don't buy clothes unless I need them. I have 3 pairs of shoes - normal pair, best pair and my walking boots.

i wasnt planning on answering this question

but to Sara H, worse does not make bad any better. this is like saying i've served my purpose in life b/ i haven't been to prison. as human beings we can never be perfect so we should be ever-progressing

peace to all,
Sakina

EDIT: they say the Prophet (saw) had two shirts, the one that he wore, and the one that he washed. i do my best to live by this philosophy but our culture does make it a great struggle. now that even Muslim countries have received this influence from the West it is hard even to get my Muslim friends from overseas to identify with this. recently Marie Claire had a feature called "Mecca Stars" about how Dubai is managing their Muslim identity with the high fashion that is now a part of their city..... in my opinion that kind of vain spending is against Islam.... but this is just my opinion

One day I counted my shoes, and I had 32 pairs. I tend to wear only 3 pairs - black ones for work, brown ones for work, and sneakers for weekends. So I gave the rest to the thrift store, and I feel so much better and have a neater closet.

I still have too much clothes. I have a rule, though. For every one item of clothing that I bring in, I must get rid of 4. I think I need to apply this same rule to my children - I counted their t-shirts, and they had 63!

At least I don't buy all this - most of it has been gifts or hand-me-downs. (Mine and theirs.)

I give away those pairs that I dont use. Just keep about 3 -4 pairs at a time.

I would not presume to judge someone who likes to shop no more than I would judge someone wearing a cross or a hijab. Even if they have a scarf for every outfit, unless you ask them, you have no idea what they may or may not give to charity and presumptions get people no where.

Hmmm... Let's see what have I got.
3 pairs of Thongs (that's footwear in Australia)
2 pairs of Sneakers. 1 good pair for going out & 1pair that were good for around the house.
1 pair of good Leather shoes for Weddings & Funerals.
& a good pair of bare feet which I wear mostly.

Is that too many. ;-)

Now my wife. Now that's a different animal.
6 pair of Line Dancing Boots
28 pairs of good going out shoes of which she only wears about 3 pairs.
6 pairs of sneakers of which she only wears 2 pair.
4 pairs of Sandals of which she only wears 1 pair
& 2 pairs of Thongs (again that Aussie footwear) 1 pair at the front door & 1 pair at the back door.
Oh & a pair of smelly Slippers.

The only reason I have a lot of pairs of shoes in my closet, is because I like to spend much of my time learning what it feels like to walk IN OTHER PEOPLE'S SHOES. .
