ACTUALLY, the words nephesh and psuche should have never been translated as "soul" because it contradicts what the meaning and usage of the hebrew and greek words. Either the soul doesn't exist, or the bible is redefining the soul as mortal.

Mathew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Ahhh, perhaps your "problem" is in the word "death, dies". What is death? Is it annihilation? In the Bible, "death, dying" refers to a "separation". When we die physically, our bodies are separated from our souls/spirits. When a person dies without redemption, they die spiritually -- that is, their souls are separated from the God who gave them life.

The Bible is correct the soul can die.
What is a "soul"?
These four people are four souls.
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.
Answer: A soul is a living being. A soul is always a combination of two things: body plus breath. A soul cannot exist unless body and breath are combined. God's Word teaches that we are souls.
Do souls die?
"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.
Answer: According to God's Word, souls do die! We are souls, and souls die. Man is mortal (Job 4:17). Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:15, 16). The concept of an undying, immortal soul goes against the Bible, which teaches that souls are subject to death.
Do good people go to heaven when they die?
"All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:28, 29. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29, 34. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.
Answer: No, people do not go either to heaven or hell at death. They go to their graves to await the resurrection day.

It was the devil who told Eve:"You positively will not die."(Genesis3:4 Revelation12:9) But she did die; no part of her lived on.That the soul lives on after death is a lie started by the devil. And it is also a lie, which the devil has spread, that the souls live on somehow. the Bible does not redefine anything just simply it states true facts. The souls do exist humans are sould because we are flesh and blood, the Animals too are souls because they too are flesh and blood

Matthew 24 shows that the soul doesn't die. But fear the one (God) that can destroy it. I believe your Ez ref. in this case means the body.

Word of God divides assunder soul & spirit: Heb 4:12.
Allegorically we are to divide assunder law and grace.
Law is root source of all sin, death, hell: Rom 5:13.
Law also the "strength" of sin's death sting: 1Cor 15:56
Hence law is the "strong man" to first bind: Mt 12:29
For law is able to kill both the body and the soul in hell.
Our Father, deliver us from evil: Mt 6:13
We are delivered from the law: Rom 7:6
Conclusion: law not only good, also evil.
Whatsoever is not of faith is sin: Rom 14:23
The law is not of faith: Gal 3:11
Conclusion: Law doesn't please God(Grace).
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

In the garden of Eden they were told by God that the day you eat of this fruit you shall surely die. In Ezekiel it states that "the soul that sinneth shall surely die". Satan said to Eve during the temptation " you will not surely die" knowing all along she would.Where it speaks of the soul dieing I believe it is referring to your spiritual death or separation from God. This is why Christ had to come to restore that spiritual connection once again with God. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are told we have "New Life" and now we are once again able to communicate with God. We are as it says in John 3 "born again". We are now born spiritually. In John we read "He who hath the Son hath Life He who hath not the Son of God hath not life". Yes we all live forever but we do not all have eternal life, life is in the Son. You reject Him whom God has sent and you reject communication with God. The only time the "Lost " and communicate with God is when they seek salvation in Christ. Christ is our mediator and our advocate before the Father, the Lost do not have Him to represent them. The Lost are still in their sin and cannot go before God only through Christ. Hope this helps you.
