it makes sense doesn't it! if you want a dog from the rspca you need a home visit to make sure you're a good home and will look after it properly so how can people be allowed to have babies just because they want to. what really angers me is babies not yet born but are on the at risk register. this is seriously not right. the world is overpopulated as it is without adding to problems with people who are not worthy of such a gift.

I personally feel that if children are taught well enough about sex education, pregnancy, child birth, contraception and life guidance, then maybe the society as whole would be in the state it is currently in. So many 'children' are now falling pregnant and bringing them into the world, little realising the strain it can have financially, emotionally and mentally.
However, when you think back into history, it would be normal for a girl to be married to an older man at a young age and to be his house wife and mother. It is what was expected of them. But these days, cost of living has risen and demand for jobs is falling, as so many of these young parents think i is ok to live on and bring up a child on benefits. Do they not see that if the child grows up to see this behaviour, that they wil think it is normal? I think it is quite unfair that there are genuine people out there working all hours god sends to have a comfortable life, home, relationship, family, marriage etc. Yet there money is contributing to the dish out for the benefits for the younger generation who thinks that this is ok.
So in an ideal, natured controlled world, the answer to your Q is yes, but surely given the correct education and guidance, common sense should come into play.

Your idea sounds very good in theory. Unfortunately, you are not the first to come up with compulsory sterilisation and societies that enforced it were not judged kindly by history.
However, it would not only solve social problems as you say, but also help with the fundamental reason for climate change today - there's just too many of us.
Anybody who has answered this question by simply stating that you're wrong and you shouldn't take away free will simply aren't looking at the bigger picture.

It's a good idea, but one that could never work in today's world. There would be no end of controversy over the idea, especially by these pro-abortion,baby group supporters etc.
I agree that some kids are dragged up,and it's these sort of people who i believe shouldn't have kids.
It would take huge amount of time and resources, for a doctor,or psychiatrist,to say yes or no,to a couple wanting children.
This question reminds me of a film, where a couple are jailed for wanting to have another child,as their first on had died.
Mind you,it would help solve the single parent problem in the world.

I actually -just- wrote a paper about this for school, satirical of course. It's not very nice to call him a nazi and I agree whole heartedly with this idea.. but that is all it is, a theory or idea. If it were actually put into practice we would have to determine what or who was really considered suitable.
As for everyone saying that having children is a god given right.. sure it is, but every child born has a god given right to know that they were truly wanted and to be really loved.
If this was ever put into place, even if people were then unsterilized at say.. 25, it would atleast eliminate some of the maturity problems related to teenage pregnancies. "He was going to leave me, so I poked a hole in the condom." Congratulations, if your daddy doesn't resent you, he sure does resent your mom.

I think that is a brilliant idea, but sure all those bloody do gooders would have a good moan about it, no more silly little girls getting pregnant just so they can get a flat, and then let us tax payers support them for the rest of there lives, no more unwanted pregnancies, yes I think it is a wonderful idea, well done.

Absolutely agree with you. I've held that view myself for some time.
I think you'd have to sterilise everybody though otherwise, what's to stop a suitable guy having a child with an unsuitable girl?

A brilliant idea. Columbo for Prime Minister!! Teenage boys would go for it I'm sure, and it would erradicate the girls getting pregnant on purpose so they can get council flats. It would cure the population problem too.

I think it's a great idea, there is way too many bad parents, alot of teen pregnancies and in Australia alot of people have kids to get the "baby bonus" which is a $4,000 government hand out for getting knocked up, (they think Australia is too unpopulated) but we don't want kids who aren't raised properly, it's not the right way to have kids, coz teens are getting pregnant to get the money, then blowing it all on plasma TV and PlayStation's, or older people blow it on pokies or drugs, people like them need to be desexed, you shouldn't want to have kids just for money.

'solutions' like this would only work if we all (the human race as a whole) all had the same values, morals, etc. Until we all agree what is 'right' and 'wrong', something like this could start a war. We can't even agree if corporal punishment is OK or not :)
