"Yup. There is nothing after death. It is just like switching off a light bulb."
but on the other hand the electrical circuitry and infrastructure that powered the light bulb is still there even when the bulb (earthly body) burns out . Bung a new bulb in and who knows?
I'm inclined to believe that when this earthly body burns out the power that motivated it is still there - it's either latent or seeking for a new form. The "light bulb" is just the external manifestation of thousands of miles of hidden cable, switches, relays, et c, and just because the bublb goes it doesn't negate the existence of all this stuff....

I believe that there is no life after death and I find that liberating. If there is this almight all powerful God who transends the universe, time and the mortal plane of existence then my life and actions are pointless. He knows already everything i will do, think, decide not to do before I do. Probably has since the dawn of time. Then everything I do has been forseen and i am but going through the motions.
That sounds depressing to me...
But If we live once and then go into oblivion we can hold our heads high because we are alive, everything we do is for us, not some God that saw it coming (buying him a christmas present must be a pain in the ***). The monuments of my life; birth, producing children achieving the acclaim of my peers are monuments for me, my legacy. If there is a God then they are his monuments and i am worthless as an individual.
Bring on oblivion and the endless night, for our achievements will echo through the ages, and we shall truely be immortal.

Death is the end of the journey, it's our goal, yesterday I was talking to my neighbor he's 67, the crazy thing is, all the great stuff in life he can't do but he never visioned that when he was 20,30,40 he taught it would not happen to him, we all know that day is on the way, death is the only sure thing in life, it was present at birth, you can say want you want, but it the greatest day of our lives, not because we no longer exist, but that the journey has come to an end. Don't confuse our society life with our natural life, society is how we eat, nature is what we are, and all things in nature die and are re-born again

Yeah, as a pessimistic atheist I've got absolutely nothing to lose by believing that death is my final act. Even if I get sent to hell for not believing in the delusional myth, at least I end up with some hot action!

It amazes me how far people will warp their imagination to create a fantasy existence that will allow them to somehow cheat the finality of death. You would think they all expect to end up in some kind of cosmic Disneyland the way they talk about how anxious they are to die and get there. Maybe I should put some diving boards on the roof of a six story building I own, so they can make this "leap of faith"

Death is the start of the journey in eternity. I enjoy being here, but I am looking forward to the next life.

there has to be something after death, just the other day my uncle went to a medium and she told him things that she could not have possibly guessed (this information was coming from my granmother who passed away a few years ago - my uncles mother) for eg. my grandfather went absailing last year, and this medium told my uncle that his mom says he is "too stressed and he must go do something that he would love - maybe absailing like your father did last year" . now i mean come on, how could she have POSSIBLY guessed that that had happened - so this is one tiny reason why i believe that there is definately life after death! :)

I don't believe death is the end of this journey.
However, that doesn't mean I don't beleive we shouldn't make the most of this part of our journey while we can.

Yup. There is nothing after death. It is just like switching off a light bulb. Nothing. I do not feel depressed about that. What is there to be depressed about?
