First thing I can see ,is that none of these people no anything about what they are talking about .Have any of them been to prison (no ) .So how do they no what its like (they dont).I have been there and its not like a country club . 75 percent of the people in our prison system are there for nonviolent offenses .That means offenses where there was no victem . Mainly drug offenses . They dont know that these people do workfor state and federal governments who sell products they make and are paid differant amounts from $5 an hour to $10 an hour in some places and pay prisoners 20 to 50 cents an hour . (slave labor) the federal prison system sold the defense dept billions of dollars in work and products made by prisoners and put american companies out of busness that can't compete with some one with no labor costs .They also don't tell you they robbed these people that are sent to prison ,for offenses where there was no victem of thier moneyand poperty before sent there .(billions of dollars) or that they pay rent and fines out of the 20 cents ph paid and the phone calls are charged inflated rates knowing they will call family .Or that they put these nonviolent offenders in space made for 1 person they will have 4 people .Or that these nonviolent offenders are then victemized by violent preditors that prisons were designed for .Or that felons are not able to get any kind of funds to go to college to better thier lifes.Or that government hasd now made about 1 in 3 people in our society felons by legislators voiolating our bill of rights .Or that felons still have to pay taxes but are not alowed to vote (taxation without representation)They say it costs $30,000 a year to keep a person in prison a year .You can go to school at the best university for $10,000 a year .Robbing these people for offenses where they haven't hurt anyone and putting them in prison for years is one level; above Hitler .Governments have been able to justify victemizing people for financial gain to any extent since time began .(indians ,jews, slaves )ou believe the propaganda our government puts out .Is there anything about government that is true anymore .

State or local, it does not matter, just the size of the task at hand. First, I'd clear some land, enough to erect large tents on, the kind of tents that house the military and withstand the elements better than those store bought tents. Then the prisoners would work on clearing more land for growing crops and raising pigs, cows and chickens. After all, they do have to eat. I'd get with the county roads and streets department and find out what labor needed to be done and how the prisoners, under the watchful eye of a couple of guards with 12 gauge shotguns and a real mean shepherd type K-9, could complete the work, free of charge. I'd find out what type of work needed to be done to improve housing for the needy and find the prisoners who had skills like electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry, and I'd have them fix the housing as needed. There would not be weight rooms, libraries, or TV rooms. If they want to read they could read the bible or daily newspapers brought in by their visitors. They would have to work everyday except Sunday. I think it would be a good idea to have each prisoner attend Sunday morning services, or at least have it broadcast over loud speakers. They could use the good news, it would probably change their lives. In my county in Georgia, we still use chain gangs...without the chains. I don't think this is too harsh.

As the prison czar of New Jersey I would use the following blueprint to save the tax payers money and to make a softer and gentler x-offender that is more likely to be less of a threat to society upon release.
Violent criminals need lots of rest and good nutrition before they are ready to mix with decent citizens again.
For maximum rest inmates would be kept like calf's being raised for veal.
Inmates would kept naked in small compartments 3' x 3' x 5.5' tall, This way you can fit the most amount of cons in least amount of space and not have to worry about laundry costs. The bottom of the compartment would be a cage like setup to allow for easy weekly cleanings with a fire hose, this would also be shower time, very cost effective and efficient.
For entertainment there would be none stop playing of Their Coming To Take Me Away, by Napoleon X.
For nutrition all inmates would be delivered a steady diet of Crisco sandwiches, lots of buttermilk and plenty of jelly dough nuts.
When an inmate reaches 500 lbs and is at least 67% body fat he, or she, gets to go on a one month vacation to a remote area in New Guinea where cannibalism is still practiced.
No more weight rooms or law libraries to make stronger and more cunning criminals at the taxpayers expense.
I would make them softer and more tender. More pleasing to the palate if you will.

I would pattern it after that Sheriff in Arizona. I would set them up in tents, feed them bologna sandwiches, and make them do some type of labor, like road work or ditch digging or forest planting. I would make prison so unpleasant that they would not want to come back.
I would have tough rules:
No personal items.
No mail unless they behave.
No cigarettes.
No associating with other gang members.
Fighting or any type of aberrant behavior would get them isolation but they would still have to work. They would have to do something alone, like paint the buildings or scrub toilets, then they would have to be locked up alone.

prisons in this country resemble country clubs. they should go back to the chain gangs they had in 40's. they also need to do away with cable television and weight rooms also.
