If we are serving God for those reason, aren't we just looking out for #1. And no wonder the rest of the unbelieving world views us as hypocrites. Shouldn't we serve God out of love for Who and what He is, for His reasons and not our own? Then we could be the people the Bible says, they will ask "Show us Who is thy God that we might serve Him also." If we dont we are every bit as fake as the atheists make us out to be.

We should be serving God out of love for Him. Heaven is a benefit.

You can serve God later, when you are already accepted in Heaven.
In the meantime, believe in God first, accept Him in your heart, believe, live with it ...His covenant..."love your neighbor as yourself"...spread the good news and save and help others, etc.

Don`t be too wise for your own good.
God wants to save you only, not to waste your life because God has his spirit in you, you have chance to enjoy everlasting happiness with Him in His paradise.

That is one thing that has so many people turned away from Christianity. The truth is we love god cause he loves us so much.Among many other things that are to much to mention. If we only love him for our gain than that's not love.It would be like a 20 year old dating and being in "love" with a 90 year old billionaire just to get his money. and that's just wrong in so many ways.

well i think we like to indulge ourselves in a religion for various reasons. Whatever it is, it's always personal. But to really love Him to the marrow of our bones is a bit far fetched. For you can only love someone near to you so they can love you back too. Let's get that out of the way if you please and save us the make believe mumbo jumbo.

The rule here is "out of sight but not out of mind". He's telling us how we should be to one another. It's here we gotta to make it, on earth and NOW!! Thats how we can really serve Him...

Yes. You make a valid point.
We don't go to heaven, however.
Our eternity is on a transformed, paradise earth.
Isn't that what Psalm 37:29 says?

The whole concept of serving, being "servants",
is both childish and biblically stated as "know not".
Children and Servants notably differ nothing.
Both have to be told what to do & don't: law law.
The higher exhortation is "be no more children".
The higher exhortation is to be "above a servant".
