What does it mean when people say someone is being a nazi. I don't think it means they folow hitler or that they are a socialist. It seems to have another meaning. Could someone please explain?

It generally means that the person is overcontrolling about something, with severe ramifications if they are not happy with it. If you have ever watched Seinfeld and seen the Soup nazi episode you will know what I'm talking about.

It's use to say someone that is acting as a dictator, when someone orders to everybody...
It can be use also to say someone racist or close minded...
And finally in a concrete group of people also may mean that someone is definitely a Nazi (so, follower of Hitler theories about Jews, and other races, National-Socialist, and so on...)

A nazi is a very closed minded person. Cruel to others if they do not believe they way they do. Are racist bigots. Over powering with their their way of thinking. It's their way or not at all. Read your history RE: Hitler and world war II. He is dead now, but, sad to say he still rules as far as the modern day nazi's are concerned. Hitler is their hero.

It is used interchangeably like "fascist." It is a pejorative word used by some against those that do not politically agree with them. Few if any, understand what a Nazi or fascist is, but as George Orwell once said " A fascist (or Nazi) is someone that has a political opinion contrary to your own."

Over controlling probably is most popular at the moment, but it also definitely refers to racism, not not just against Blacks, but especially against Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and people not of this supposedly "arian" (blond hair, blue eyed Nordic looking super human) So that takes in most of the world.
Read about Hitler's reign of terror, the word Nazi lives in infamy.

Generally speaking: someone who is controlling, over baring, cruel, mean, uncaring of someone else's feelings.
I have also heard the term cooking like a Nazi, means to burn everything and that's not very nice either.

I think people tend to use that term loosely nowadays to ALL RACES. Sometimes to mean that someone has a combative personality, is bitter or uptight... like short form for 'someone's got a pickle up their butt!'.
