Yep. I once committed the heinous crime of sitting on the steps outside the Vatican to have a photgraph taken. The rudest **** of a papal guard actually pointed his rifle at us and told us to move. So much for christian values. We have people living homeless on the streets and churches being maintained and kept warm for a few hours a week. Bunch of hypocrites the lot of 'em.

yes, ..i am saying this as a christian too....in the bible... the priests were not even allowed to own land .. they lived off just a portion of the offerings that were brought..
they , as a group, should own and operate land for the purpose of serving god, ..if the property is used to help the poor when not in use for services.....which is usually just twice a week, at the most
i just met one person who was kicked out of a city run shelter..she was forced out into a cold rainy, windy night....she is now in a private person's home....she complained because there was no church to take her in....there should be a call list of churches so this does not happen... I have left churches that were neglectful of the poor like this....i have taken the poor in myself, so it bugs me when the "church," which has more money, is not set up to do this....... most "churches" are buildings....the real church is "out there" and is represented by private individuals who are really trying to be helpful, and we are doing it with our own money....
I do want to give credit to some local shelters which are church run.... it does take alot of money to help the poor, so they do what they can...but there should be more of them.

Indeed, even the Lord is l-o-n-g-SUFFERING to us-ward,
which is also to say he is not longsuffering to them-ward.
Rather the exhortation is to "come out from among them".
It's time we probated the will of God:
"I will have mercy, and not sacrifice"
(Psalms 40:6; Psalms 51:16; Hosea 6:6)
given us again as a 'go figure' in Mt 9:13.
For receiving the promise comes after it.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

excuse me!
the west has been sending food and economic aid to the poor all over the world for decades.
They just eat it and wait for the next bag to be thrown from teh back of a red cross truck.
There was none of this problem when they were british colonies.
Africans and asian s arent ready to govern themselves.
Pumping money upon money into corrupt and backward countries is only avoiding the real issue.these ppl need educating and rivaol factions within their countries need controlling by international peacekeeprs.
land and other assets belonging to the church bring in revenue that supports the existance of the church.A church that runs thousands of aid sponsorships and outreach centres all over the world. The church is magnanimous in its global caring roles.
please read up before forming such blinkered opinions

In a nutshell, yes. They should. As a Christian, I am convinced that helping the poor and hungry IS Christ's message, not exploiting them. Any church that is more interested in institution building that it's core mission as followers of Jesus is very suspect in my book. Unfortunately, the wealthy and the powerful have been trying to coopt the message of Jesus for centuries. The teleevangelists continue that tradition today, unfortunately.

Get a realistic perspective of the world. Christianity (and Islam) were invented to enable their leaders to control the masses with minimal resort to force. Any apparent good from the mainstream Christian churches is window dressing for their public personas.

Oh you poor thing. Do you realize that part of tithing help others outside Churches. Do you realize there are thousands of Christian based (and other) organizations that feed, house and clothe people every day. Hospitals? Homeless shelters? Charity is a HUGE part of what we do. Every month our Church collects food, provides dinners, collects clothing........gimme a break.

Yes, you are quite right. IF God existed, and IF religions followed the teachings of Jesus that they try to convert everyone to, the religions would not own anything!

Or does generosity only extend as far as a 'soup kitchen'....
