LOL....not many Americans know what this is used for around the world. My should-be-Wife was raised in Zambia, the UK, and Antigua and actually just spreads marmite on toast, sometimes with a banana if you can believe that! For a more practical use...I met some New Zealanders in Qatar when I was there opening a restaurant for a client in about 1993 between wars. They eat a ton of lamb in New Zealand and one of the secrets I saw them use to make an outrageously Delicious pan gravy was to add about a teaspoon of marmite or Vegemite or bovil to the almost completed gravy. They use it the way a mainstream American Chef would use coloring in a gravy (Kitchen Bouquet or Gravy Master) except that it adds a really delightful carmel flavoring that is very near to the carmelization you'd get from the bottom of the roating pan and hopefully have deglazed into your gravy. Now that's a REAL Chef's secret and not one too many know about! Give it a try next Thanksgiving!

I agree with you...haha. In case you still want to attempt something with it:

Marmite Eggs Florentine

For 4 people

675gm frozen chopped spinach
4 medium free range eggs
1 tablespoon Marmite
4 slices freshly cooked toast
freshly ground black pepper

Warm the spinach in a microwave and drain in a sieve squeezing out
as much water as possible. Heat 1" deep of water in a frying pan
and poach the eggs for 3-4 minutes. Beat the Marmite into the
drained spinach and then pile it on to the toast, making a small
well in the centre of the spinach. Place a poached egg in each
well and season with pepper.

If you like the stuff - open the jar and spread it on top of your bread, toast, crumpets, muffins or what ever.

I don't like the stuff - Vegemite is for me...

Spread on hot crumpets. Although even better, spread it on oneself and get a hot crumpet to lick it off :-)
