Must be one of the most stupid questions ever. Why don't you read a little history concerning the suppression of religion?

No although I would like the idea. Why do I say no though? Well think of it like this. When something becomes outlawed it becomes a taboo thing for those that still do it and thus people will want to follow religion just because it would be a forbidden, taboo thing to do in a society with outlaws it and thus become an exciting activity.

EG: Under 21s are very keen to try alcohol even though they are legally not allowed to drink. So they'll make the effort to get alcohol because its forbidden. When they reach 21 and it's allowed there isn't this constant urge to go drinking because its now allowed to them at any time.

Wish we could all get rid of religion though. It's really destructive and a form of controlling others.

No, Because if religion was outlawed then freedom of speech would be outlawed and then Yahoo answers would be outlawed and people would be scarred to death to say anything. People have no idea what freedom we have here in America compared to other countries. That is why we should keep freedom of religion. Cause with out it All the other freedom's go away with it.

Not unless you want a huge surge in crime. Many people ascribe their morals directly to religion, in fact the vast majority believe that their morals come directly from God. When you take the foundation for morality away from people it will undoubtedly have lasting negative repercussions. Also, outlawing religion would never fly--there is no way people would give up their faith simply because it was unlawful. Our constitution covers that, and outlawing religion would be unconstitutional.
Finally, not all religions cause wars and bigotry--my religion, Taoism, has never been the cause of any war or strife.

They tried it in the Soviet Union, and it is about that way in China today. If nothing else it grows underground. There is no more rational way to outlaw religion than to have parlament make laws outlawing sex. Gays were once inprisioned in the UK and other places, but now look at their strength.
So...has been tried...didn't work then...won't work now, and can't work in future.

Don't get me wrong it is actually an appealing idea for lots of reasons stated by skeptics.

No. The freedom of religion is one of the most fundamental freedoms we have. To outlaw religion is to impose the views of a minority on the majority. That would be a horrific society to be in.

Quite the opposite. I firmly believe religion, ALL religions, should be outside the influence of any authority that does not stem directly from that religion. THAT is the ONLY way to have anything even closely resembling religious freedom, after all freedom means to be free from constraint.

No. But it should be held up to higher scrutiny by society.

In the same way I should feel free to criticise a political party without worrying about upsetting its followers, I should be able to criticise and organised religion.

No religion should be given special protection by law. There are enough laws that protect race and the individual to protect us.

We should be wary in criticising religion, though. Much in the same way that we don't tell someone who thinks their child is a genius is just a normal kid, or tell a man that thinks his wife is the most beautiful woman in the world that is wife is ugly.

no it shouldn't be outlawed this would push it underground and make it more fanatical but religion should never have any control over government or be allowed to rule a country

in many countrys people arnt allowed to speak about jesus they face torture, jail, excomunication, starvation ,and death, wouldnt you say it is outlawed enough, if more people had faith in jesus maybe the world would be more bearable ,it will never get better because god has told us that there is worse to come but it would be more bearable. also religion isnt what we have ,faith is what we have and that could never be outlawed ,can never be crushed or downtrodden cos we serve a living saviour in jesus christ
