Religion can easily be used toward someone's personal goals, taking scripture of any doctrine out of context and using it to promote ones agenda is relatively simple. That having been said, Religion can also be used by the state to justify a war for land and resources. Religion also has therapeutic qualities though, and religion keeps the strong from killing the weak and taking their things. It's both, a weapon of mass destruction and a tool for self-growth and finally a social control to keep people in line.

The opposite is the truth. Don't be deceived by the false prophets.
Many of them have become millionaires by what I call the industry of religion. They only care for their well being, not yours. Have you seen a small tent become a large building in no time?
For that purpose they learn the techniques of manipulating people and submitting their minds. Have you heard about communes you can be involved in that have made robots of human beings. These people
need several weeks to get their minds straightened after they get out of them. Have you heard about Jimmy Young or that community in Waco, Texas? I think that is the real weapon of mass destruction of a society.

It could be if used to push people. There are some Religions that push people to join theres. Saying that they are wrong and evil for not feeling the same way they do. I'm a Christan and i would never ever dream of pushing someone to feel the same way about the things I do. That's what makes people human. To have the right to choose what religion and other things in life they want.

This very internet we are using can transmit the preachings of every twisted madman who perverts the word of God for their own means, in seconds, to millions of otherwise good people.
So....No, religion is not the real weapon of mass destruction....... Tools of mass communication are the weapon. And, sadly, religion is the ammunition that is being used.

No -- at least not my religion.
My religion, the Roman Catholic Church, is the single largest charitable and humanitarian organization on the planet.
Those who try to make you believe that "religion is a weapon of mass destruction" don't really believe that.
It's just that religion -- specifically Christian ones -- teach things that they just don't want to hear.
But rather than just agreeing to disagree with these teachings, these people feel the need to discredit and defame religion. That way, they can feel much better about their beliefs and actions which conflict with religious teachings.
They're not at all concerned with the causes of destruction. They're just interested in throwing rocks at religion -- and one way they do that is to accuse religion of destruction of which it's entirely innocent.

It is because anything which is a passion in anyones life is subject to a defence mechanism, which is exploited by the heads of various religions.
I have to disagree with saying that ww1 and ww2 were non-religious, Hitler himself wished to create a single Arian race which involved destroying all of jewish culture and religion and any other beleif system which didn't involve the beleif in the "pure breed" society. (please see any history book) which included the polish muslims, and of course, the rebellious christian british.
As for catholisism being innocent of this crime the vatican is documented (you only have to search historical texts) as protecting Nazi wealth and Nazi fugitives - ergo this is a support of war.
It is fundamental beleif in religion which causes a view of right and wrong in the world that forgets that we aren't a world living with GOD but under him/them and we are all interpreting old texts and applying them to todays modern life.
War and Religion and money all go hand in hand and as long as single politicians represent thousands and millions of unquestioning minds there will be no change - the hidden agenda is always placed under a religious guise.
It is up to us as a human race to say no to war and make our representatives hear us!

Based upon the belief that the majority of wars were religiously incited... Yes. However, WW1 & 2 were not based upon religion but land and millions died (including 5 million because of their religion), so maybe not.
What is interesting is... where are all the religious leaders of the warring factions? and why are they not demanding a complete cessation of hostilities?

Not all religions (Buddhism for one does not seem harmful and is nowhere near being a weapon of mass destruction), but certainly many of them, such as those that preach to kill infidels and that infidels are working for Satan and such things that make people hate or fear those who don't share their beliefs.

I don't know why people don't realize that it's not the religion that's the problem with society..... It's not the weapons that is the problem with society..... It's always the people....
When the world gets traded anew..... I hope the Lord puts a lable on it before He puts it away..... saying, "Contains nuts".......
