i do my grocery shopping weekly and between the time i buy the basil and actually use it ( usually a few days later) it goes off. if i put in a zip-lock bag and keep it in the vege/ fruit drawer it goes brown and soggy. if i dont put it in a bag then it just dries in the drawer. Any suggestions on how to keep it fresh for up to a week... thanks

ps: there's nothing wrong with the fridge, its only a year old.

wrap it in paper towel that was lightly dampend. Then in a plastic bag. Keep the paper towel slightly moistened and it will keep well. Too much to use? puree it with some lemon juice, olive oil, parmesian cheese and pine nuts, until a paste then freeze in your ice cube tray and after frozen , pop them out and store in your freezer! Use this pesto to add to pasta, tomato soup, etc.

Put the basil leaves in an ice cube tray with a leaf in each cube, fill with water and the basil is frozen into the ice cube. Just pop as many cubes as you need when your recipes call for Basil.

Try putting it in a coffee mug with some water. Some say to add vinegar or lime to it.. but I find water by itself works good.
