Ok, religious people, please tell me how you know that your faith is the right one. Please don't answer this with "because Jesus loves me' or 'the Bible tells me' or 'It's in the Quarn'. I want you to tell me what it is that makes you BELIEVE in whatever you do. What makes you think that the Bible is true, that there is a God, that Mohammed was a prophet etc.
I'm not trying to bait anyone, or rile anyone, I genuinely want to understand why someone has 'faith' in something when I absolutely do not, and no matter how I try, cannot understand how anyone could.

OK, no one has really given me anything close to what I'm after, Julia - you are making assumptions, God, Jesus, Peter etc, they are still written in the bible so really could be written by anyone. I need to know why you think that is true.
Rosemary, just because something is old and logical doesn't mean it is true either. It's still faith in a god that there is no proof exists.
And honey, I have plenty of faith in myself, and certain other people, but that is because I know them so well. But thanks for the answer - made me think a little.

tracy - YAWN!
old know all - I don't know there is no God, I just have no evidence to suggest there is one. I've tried to imagine it, but I just can't believe that God in any religious form exists. For me the biggest thing to try and understand is peoples belief in 'religion' not God. How can a religion that has obviously evolved over time be right?

Even if my religion is of falsehood, I know that from believing and practicing it I have become a better son to my parents, a better partner to my spouse, a better father to my children, a better individual to my society. It has encouraged me to live a good life, to care for others and discouraged me from causing harm to people and to myself. I know that I terrorise not innocent people and if I need to fight, it is for the defence of my violated rights, for the protection of my charge and not because I want to covet or that I am greedy.
And if I die and not go anywhere, I am happy enough to know that I have done good in this world for myself, my parents and the other people around me.
That, in itself, is already a reward.

First of all i would like to say that am not religious but have a personal relationship with God. I want you to shut yr eyes for a while and imagine what void looks like,i.e the universe with no living creatures. I also want you to imagine what the future will look like say 100 decades from now.
Do you know what?, You will find these answers in the Holy Bible. Just for your information, the Bible is centered on Israel (God's chosen ones) although in the latter everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as the saviour is considered redeemed. You may find it ironical because Israelities or the Jews are waiting for their Messiah-Jesus and yet we know he has already come however this too is indicated in the Bible. It tells you what is to happen in the future and believe me you, some of the stuff has happened or is happening as i write to you. And to me that suggests that there is a Supreme Being who dictates all this occurances. And his name is God. Since the begining and the end are spelt out clearly in the Bible, that should tell you something. I also believe that it's best you believed than disbelieve and in the end, you find that what you disbelieved exists and you are punished for eternity, however if you find that it don't exist, you loose nonthing. Take your take

I will direct you to a source, try Evidence which demands a verdict by Joshua Mc Dowell. It is hardcore physical evidence that proves the verifiability of Old Testament Prophecy. My favorite was about the cities Sidonia and Tyre. It was prophesied that Sidonia would be destroyed and its mortar and timbers would be cast into the sea. And that Tyre would be so utterly destroyed that it would never be more than a fishing village. Alexander the Great, 500 plus year later, conquered Sidonia, and when he discovered Tyre was an Island off the coast, He took all the mortar and timbers from Sidonia and built a causeway to Tyre to march his troops accross. And when you look at how many prophecies Christ fulfilled in a single day of His life, all the way down to not haveing any bones broken, when the people on either side of Him had their leggs broken so they would die and not be on the cross on the sabbath day, How can you plan that out. And the unscheduled eclipse that occured when Christ was on the cross was documented in many cultures which were non Christian. Food for thought anyway, and physical evidence to look at. Not just opinion.

This is incredible!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone with a different God and each of us think he is the only God and that everyone else is wrong.
If there is a creator, if there is a God, then who is he and who of us is really worshiping the true God.
Is God Jesus??? Not according to the scriptures. According to the bible Jesus is the SON OF GOD. Jesus always states that he is doing the WILL of his father.
So who is the father??? Is he the true God. Well, if you believe in the bible yes. The God of Abraham who's name is JEHOVAH. The name Jehovah appears in the original scriptures about 7000 times, but that name has been substituted by LORD or GOD.
In the original Texts, Jesus mentions JEHOVAH as his father tens of times. Jehovah has made Jesus very powerful and has given Jesus Kingship to rule, but Jesus himself is not the almighty, Jesus is the way to Jehovah, but he is not Jehovah.
So if your God is Jesus, you are not worshipping the True God.
No wonder Jesus states that in the last days people would tell him "but we did everything in your name" and Jesus will tell them in return "I do not know you". Why would Jesus say this. Because you are supposed to worship Jesus's father, not Jesus himself. Jesus died for our sins and through him we could be saved. Just as a lawyer is a mediator between the jury and the defendant. Jesus is the mediator between the true God and us.
So all of you who think Jesus is God, might be mistaken.
What about Buddha. To a buddha there is no supreme creator god. Buddha is a guide and teacher who points the way to nirvana. So it's kind of like atheism.
What about other God's, there are hundreds of millions. But if there is a God, who is he. I think that if there is a God, it would have to be Jehovah, the God of Abraham and the father of Jesus.
Why? Because "The Bible has survived the ignorance of it friends and the hatred of its enemies." The Bible, like no other book in history, has withstood vicious attacks from its enemies...and it is still faithful to its original text.

Well, first of all, I find it completely impossible to believe that the world just happend. With people, animals, water, air, plants, etc. all of which we need to sustain ourselfs, one needs the other, could not simple "just happen". Doesn't that make sence? Another is, that Satan gets to people differntly. He has evedently gotten to you more to where you are not as open minded (and I mean no offense by that) about believing in God. That is exactly what Satan wants to accomplish. To have your soul. You see, Satan and God have this "game" (don't know how else to phrase it) going on. God said that people would come to him of free will. Satan said they would not. So Satan has to do anything he can to get people on his side. Wheather it be by leading people into drugs, bad things happening all the time to people, someone close to you dieing, what ever he can do. He will do it. God is proving a point that people will still come to him inspite of all of this. And alot do. And the end result is going to be to live for all eternity, in a super world! If you believe! It will be so great that we as humans cannot even begin to understand all that awaits for us. As for knowing if I have the right religion, I don't. No one does. But....when Jesus comes back for us, we will be shown that we are right or wrong on that. And then be given a choice of if we want to practice the real religion. For the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ. So I think as long as you are practicing religion, and a good person in general, with a good heart, you will get to do that. Well, that's my opinion. I hope something I have said makes sense to you and helps you figure this out. (My opinion on you asking this question is that Jesus is trying to help you get going on understanding)

I know because I have a relationship with Jehovah the true God I have not only seen his influence in my life I have had my prayers answered on many occasions, the reason that I know that my faith is the right one is because my faith or religion is doing God's will by studying the Bible I have realised that many religions are not teaching truths, and, therefore, not pleasing God and because of this many people are being confused about what is truth, and that is the aim of the devil to blind people to the truth

All right, here you have put the question that I fear the most!
The doubt of a real God. Who is to blame you, when you are evidently facing all the contrary episodes of the real life!
I have believed in Jesus Christ and accepted him as the real living God. As going thorough his words there are no faults, none whatsoever, in his words there is you, me and everyone else.
No other man on Earth can come up with a perfect intelligence as Jesus Christ, consider to be 2,000 years ago. He still telling us how to live in a healthier manner, spiritually and morally. Here you must understand that God is talking not just individually but also universally, and that is something beyond any man power.
Now if you still have your doubts on Jesus Christ, I advise you to read his words, not the whole Holy Bible, as the Holy Bible is the history of mankind, and that needs your whole life to understand, by going through the process on research, still if you are not satisfy, then I put this question to you: What's good in not believing in a real God? You have nothing to lose!

I don't believe that my religion is the right one, i believe it is the right one for me. I believe in fate, and i think that it is God showing me the way. I believe i have a guardian angel who watches over me and that God has a plan for us all. Not in a deep way, it could just be that you are in the right place at the right time to touch someone's life and make a difference.
As for the religion, Jews, Muslims and Christians all believe in the same god, it is just that they have different stories about what happened after and the right one is the one that you can relate to the most.

Hi - this is an interesting question! For me, I know theres a God because of everyday miracles such as 2 cells merge and create a human! Wow, thats not something that can be evolved, I really believe its the work of a higher power. But thats just me :O). Also, things like emotions, love, etc, that cant just be down to chemicals. Everyone has a soul, and it was put there, not made. Thanks for making me think! xx

It is hard to express this in words which will be acceptable to you, but what immediately springs to mind is the statement in the Bible that the Holy Spirit witnesses to my spirit that I am a child of God. The Holy Spirit lives inside believers in Christ and He feels real to them. In an age when many people find faith difficult, He is working all kinds of miracles, the results of which are evident to all who witness them. I was cured of an otherwise incurable medical condition through healing prayer. I've seen wonderful things happen to other people which could only be described as miracles. May I invite you to take a step towards faith by asking God to make Himself plain to you? Be open to what He shows you, rather than hold yourself back in a position of denial. The promise of Jesus is that all who seek Him will find Him. Just take Him at his word, as I did and do!
