I dont understand what is happening soon. On my main tv in the Lounge, I have NTL attached, which has been upgraded to a digital box, I am assuming that particular TV will work when the switch over happens. However, whatabout my portables in the kitchen and bedroom, they both have DVD players as part of the TV, but no mention of digital, will they work, will I need to purchase something to make them recieve the channels, should I attach perhaps a cheap freeview box to them, advice needed please.

The first answer above is wrong. You will need a Freeview box for each TV in the house when switchover happens.
Alternatively NTL might offer a cheap deal to get the cable channels on every TV - it's worth asking them. Sky have a similar deal where you can get an extra digibox with all your subscribed channels for an extra tenner a month.

You should get freeview. I don't know if there is such a thing that just gives you channels 1-5 once the changeover happens..... Freeview boxes use a scart socket, so you might need to buy an adapter too.
