The Judge, Jury, and Prosecuting Attorney approach the young man in a united plea for the killer to be crucified together with the Prosecutor, be buried with Him by baptism into His death, raise up to new life, and go free as a completely new creature with a clean, fresh slate, and go and kill no more but, rather, go forth as a special messenger, born from above, to raise the 12-year-old girl from the dead and give her back to her parents and continue on presenting the same opportunity that was just offered to him to others - whosoever will take the Judge up on His offer of freedom and newness of life.

Wow, what country was this in? How long is he to be locked up for?
He did the crime and he deserves to be punished, as long as its justified (ie the punishment doesnt outweight the crime, which in this case would be hard to see)!
EDIT to those who dont get the 'at His Majesty's Pleasure' bit. I'm assuming its the same as here in the UK when someone is said to be serving at Her Majesty's Pleasure, it means they are doing jail time!

Ms Pretty should he not be held accountable because he is a boy???. It doesn't matter what country it happened in, this boy has committed a crime and needs to realise there are consequences for his actions no matter what the circumstances were. If he were to go unpunished do you not think he might think as he grows into adulthood that he can deal with all his issues like this?. Whatever your religion or lack of it, most of us are brought up not to harm others and have respect for all living beings.

Mav from America - she doesn't know what 'at His Majesty's pleasure' means
Perhaps if Mav had all the details, Mav would have a better idea of punishment.

I don't think a 13 years old boy is accountable or should be held responsible. People in my religion are not held accountable until after puberty.
edit/
Phoenix, he's still a child.. children who commit crimes usually go to special homes, but not to be punished as adults.

That is a real tough one. You can't kill him. Even though he's an older child, he is still a child. I would have to not only know more details of the crime but the child's motives. I'd say if it was a heartless brutale murder than that punishment sounds just.

Edit: ok, you have progressed as far as medieval witch-burning and institutionalised torture.
