All religions teach us to respect each other but in the process of telling others, what their religion teaches is the right way of living, they forget the limits of being a passionate preacher and a righteous person and turn somewhere into a violent demon who kills innocent humans just because they do not think that their faiths and beliefs are the only ones to live by and choose to believe in other set of rules. But that can't helped, unfortunately.

Religions themselves never ever preach about hate. People do. Maybe for their own selfish reasons or for some other reasons.Gautam Buddha, Prophet Mohammed, Jesus Christ, and various Hindu Gods all got the purpose of life and the reason we're here. They GOT IT. People started following them....they never got it. Throughout histiory...the meaning of religion filtered down and changed or shall we say morphed into our own our own entities...serving man's own selfish purpose of dominance and the need to be recognised. That was not the original purpose of the teachings of various Gods. They never intended religion to become a weapon. So the reason why we cant respect other religions is because of the way its been throughout history...the explosion of the ego. Lets leave it at that.

If you believe in a religion you do 'bind' into it.
But the respect part is because of bias media coverage, some parents passing on intolerance to their children and obviously just ignorance.

Because the (conservative) believers of most religions believe that they have a monopoly on the truth and that other religions therefore must be wrong or false. Why would they respect a religion that they believe is false?

Could be different reasons:
* people believe their religion is right and want the rest to embrace it
* people believe since they are right, the rest must be wrong
* people are afraid of difference; they feel safer when among similar people
* people do not focus on what is more important; how you, he, she and myself can make the world a better place rather than thinking which one of us is right and which is wrong
May Allah have mercy on us all
Peace

When you believe that two plus two is equal to four, that particular belief is yours and why should you believe others if they say that two plus two is equal to some other number than four?
Respect routes through belief.
