Why is it that so many people are afraid to let their kids use the internet. They always worry about oh well they are going 2 get a stalker.. NEWS FLASH go to wal mart and you can get a stalker. What about pornography--- VERY easily blocked if as a parent you know what you are doing (takes a few clicks on an admin profile) Oh well what about bullying and graphic launguage. Parents I hate to tell you this but me just coming out of highschool you should be worried about THOSE halls not the internet. I found out some things in 7th/8th grade that I should NOT have known about till i was 16-18 if you really want to BUBBLE your kids then put them in homeschool because thats the only place they wont get the filth that infests america's schools. (private or public) MYSPACE--- really parents its NOT a bad site it helps kids get together with their friends and with me being a college student helps me to keep in contact with friends that go to other colleges. this is not an EVIL site.

Part of the problem is some parents aren't willing to get involved and pay attention to what their kid is doing. The same thing happens with TV so they either complain about what's on TV or ask for fancy devices to control it. All they really need is to get off their tail ends and spend some time with their kids. The Internet has a bad rep because of a lot of propoganda but for the most part it is safer than the public streets. Again, all parents need to do is look and learn about it. Then spend some time talking to their kids about the Internet and what not to do. It isn't all that hard.

Granted my daughter is only a toddler but when her time comes I'm not going to be freaked out that she wants on the internet. Both myself and her father are computer nerds and all of are friends are from different states. We keep connected through the internet and it's a great source of information and entertainment. I think that if you're raised your child right and taught them well that the internet isn't anything to be worried about. Same with video games, television, or anything else. It's only the ones who haven't been shown the correct way to handle themselves and their lives that run into problems I think.

umm yeah what a rant. There are a lot of sick people out there and even more on the Internet, we cant help our children being exposed to them in the real world but we can prevent their exposure to the on the Internet. I know pornography etc etc can be blocked but when my child is old enough to use the Internet alone you can be assured there will be a net nanny installed on my computer and i will be closely monitoring what she is doing.
As for my-space, it got a lot of bad press because there is no age restriction on who and what can post there. Some kids started getting stalked by pedophiles and its had gained a reputation for being a pedo hunting ground.

I agree with you...you can't shelter your kids forever. They're going to see this stuff whether you like it or not. I don't necessarily think myspace is incredibly dangerous for kids and teens if the parents have taught their children about how to use the internet safely. I used to chat online when I was in middle school and high school, but my parents told me enough about internet predators, so I knew what was going on! I think its becomes more of a danger to kids when parents shelter them too much.

Parents should check everything their child does online. Myspace is really a bad idea. If you read it you may find out what your child is really like. Too much communication online with people they dont know is scary. Keep a close eye on your kids and yourself.

ok the internet is filled with sex predators,thugs. and people need to tell their children the world is more dangerous then the web but so is the internet because they are alot of children who get napped by predators,kidnappers,murderers.
