my surname is almonte from philippines,,,my grandfather is honesto francisco almonte from bicol philippines worl war 2 veteran....and according to him our great great grandfather are 3 admirals of royal navy of spain during spanish american war in the philippines,,,pls. help me to trace the origin of my family,,,or does anyone know the real name of 3 admiral that i had been said,,,thank u very much..god bless..

Hey Jim Russel,

I have some veterans sites below. Start with your own birth certificate, then work backwards to your parents, then theirs. Use records, wills, obituaries, birth, death certificates, etc.

Interview all that are alive now. Get names, dates, places of events, pictures, every thing they will let you look at or borrow or have.

Then start looking on Family Search, GENFORUM, and Cindi's list for Philippines. Many other sites will help you.

when i did my family history i went to ancestory.com and signed up for a free trial. you just type in your surname and they search through millions of files. i finished before the 30 day trial was over, canceled the subscription, and the whole thing was completely free (unless you count the hours staring at the computer screen)

start with you and work back you, parent , grandparents, greatgrandparent, write down everything that you know about them full name , where they were born, where married and where they diedby the time you have done this information you have a good start on your genealogy. you can get free form for this information from ancestry . com good luck and happy hunting
