mine took 4 weeks. it's faster if they put it onto your account straight away than if they send you a cheque.

do you mean income tax?

if your self employed and fill out a tax return manually and post it to them it can take anywhere from 4 weeks to 8 weeks depending on what backlog they have, although they do try to prioritise refunds first. If you submitted it online then could be 3 weeks or even sooner

if employed then it may take a bit longer as you will need to let them have your p45's or p60 forms for them to calculate it and then issue you with a calculation which i would advise you to check. this normally takes around the same sort of time scale as above.

if unsure go to www.hmrc.gov.uk and there should be some contact numbers for you to ring.

Fastest way is if you file electronically and have the refund deposited to your bank account - that takes 10 days to a couple weeks depending on when during the week you file. If you file electronically and have a check sent to you, takes a few additional days.

If you mail in your return on paper, typically takes 6-8 weeks. Again, having the refund deposited cuts a couple days off the time.

If you haven't gotten your refund in the time expected, you can check its status on irs.gov - there's a link "where's my refund". Or you can call the IRS.

If you have been emergancy taxed then you normally get it back in your wages when they have sorted it out.
