If you didn't know - it tastes like black licor-ISHY!

2006-11-23 21:53:34 · update #1

Well rjr... I would say a lot of people get it to get drunk if not most people who buy it. Being this is my first time drinking it I didn't know what to expect. I just thought it would be neat, since I am living in Japan where it is readily available, to drink it and say that I have drank Absinthe. Woule you mind answering my question now?

No I didn't forget the sugar and even poured the water over a sugar cube layed on a slotted absinthe spoon. It actually wasn't THAT bad after I asked the question and the ice melted down a bit... guess I must have mixed it to strong. And yes I knew that the legal Absinthe does not have a hallucinating affect such as LSD. I am of legal drinking age... not 12.

Absinthe does have a nice aniseed flavour, but it can be a bit bitter. I found out this by accident (I was drunk when I gave it a go), but it works really well. Try mixing it with cherryade. The sweetness of the cherry drink cuts through the bitterness. I would think that's the same reason a lot of people have suggested other fizzy drinks like lemonade and 7Up.
Mmm...wonder what it would be like mixed with Dandelion and Burdock. Or rootbeer...

Absinthe Mixed Drinks

Absinthe is primarily anise flavored so it's going to licorice-y...period. That's just the way it's made. It's bottled extremely strong so that it stays clear. What happens when you add water is that it not only dilutes it to a safe drinking strength, but it also reduces the solvent property of the alcohol so that disolved oils come out of solution which renders the diluted drink "milky." This is part of the appeal of the drink.
If you didn't already, try using a sugar cube with it. Traditionally, a sugar cube is placed on a slotted spoon (an absinthe spoon) and the water you add is poured over the sugar cube. The sweetness takes a little of the harshness from the wormwood and the intense anise flavor and makes it a little smoother.

The bottom line is that it is primarily flavored by anise. As a result, if you don't like the flavor of black liquorice, you are NOT going to like absinthe.

Absinthe Drink Recipe

True story. A number of years ago I met with the lead singer of the '80's group "A Flock of Seagulls''. He was drinking the modern, legal version of absinthe (Pernod) using 7-Up as a mixer. I have to say it tasted pretty good. Might give it a shot (so to speak).

RE:
What can I mix with my absinthe besides water... (it's so gross!)?

Nothing I've tried that does not make it even more gross... and anyway, if you don't like the taste, why do you insist on drinking the stuff? It's not like it was LSD in a glass or anything. Honestly, water and sugar (you didn't forget the sugar, did you?) are the best mixers for absinthe.

You drink a whole bottle of absinthe baby and all you'll be seeing is the coroner! (though if you do ascribe to the whole notion of heaven...you may well get to meet the big guy that way. I don't know you, so it's not for me to judge which direction you're headed in.)

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://biturl.im/aU5bI

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

If you don't like anise, why are you drinking absinthe ? The licorice taste is pretty much the whole point of the drink! It's also a drink meant to be savoured, not skolled ----- not the best choice if you're looking to get hammered!!
