I've been searching around for purebred Labs for some time now and have found a good breeder with pups ready soon. They are $900 (AUD), parents have clear hips/elbows, heart certificate, vaccinated, wormed, vet checked, champion bloodlines etc.
Is this a fair price to pay? Is that the going price for a pure Lab (pet quality)?

Ya that sounds about right. I've been looking around to find a show quality bitc.h myself. It's impossible to find good quality Labs here in north Idaho!!
Ask if they test the eyes as well. PRA seems to be another thing cropping up in Labradors. :-(

I would say $900 is a tad to much pups normally sell for 500-900, but if you are happy with the breeder and have looked into the parents history and their parents history and they are all clear then I would say its personal choice...
Ask to see reports from the vet for hip dysplasia, they should be able to supply you with written reports and possably x-rays to view.
Are you wanting this dog for breeding or just for the family pet? because that will affect the sale price aswell. You said its had a heart check...is it now on heartworm tablets aswell...if the breeder has said its been checked and tested you are within your rights to ask for proof...your spending alot of money on a dog and want top quality.

Hope this helps a little

I paid around $600 AUD 11 years ago for mine, so allowing for inflation its not that bad. His lineage was show and working champions. Mine also had the required clearances for dysplasia in the parents and they seem to be worthless. My old chap has one of the worst cases the vet claims to have seen diagnbosed at about 8. I think the age of the parents when tested might be of signficance.

I reccomend viewing both parents and looking for any indication of stiffness in the rear end or an odd gait. Not always easy of course.

Finally, weight control is essential. The worst thing you can do is allow them to go overweight, as it will only make any hip/elbow problems worse.

Price is totally dependent on what is in their background, and what your intentions for the dog are. I would never pay $900 for a dog that is never going to get off the couch, but I would and have paid $3,000 for a quality field trial Lab pup.

If I was looking for a quality show ***** (foundation ***** potential) Millmar Labs would be my first choice. I understand that Hamburg NY is a long way from Idaho, but I had her send one to Utah for me, so same difference. But June Miller is as nice a person you will ever find to deal with. Look for a "Tanner" sired pup if she has any.

you recognize you submit repeated question on the comparable traces -seems you have so little awareness of the practice worldwide of the practice worldwide which you have been brainwashed by one muckraking documentary- so if that documentary became into on foster mom and dad who take toddlers & placed them in cages & feed them basically dogs nutrition (if in any respect) might you be putting up one hundred and one questions with reference to the evils of foster parenting & forget approximately approximately people who do their superb to offer youngsters a reliable initiate in existence? So i prefer to propose the 1st ban i won't be able to tell for specific yet i think the aussie on your atvar is a blue merle when you consider that 2 blue merle bred mutually in many circumstances produce heavily deprived doggies (some have been born without EYES) he/she greater effective be altered and all Sib's (even the nonmerles- you won't be able to be too careful) cousins & different family members contributors to the nth degree... the survivoring Aussies might desire to be CERFED ($40 5), HipS,($one hundred) coronary heart echocardiograhed ($2 hundred) vonwillebrands examined($a hundred and forty) mystation examined ($40 8) fancoti syndrome examined (do no longer recognize value) i do no longer think of Aussies have a difficulty with Vonwillbrands and that i recognize the myostatian defecency is barely modern-day in whippets and faoncoti i think of is constrained to basenjis yet won't be able to be too careful you recognize! that's way too hassle-free to make breeding impossible by requiring unnessary sorting out the two pricing breeding outta the marketplace OR removing maximum of canines that could desire to be thoroughly bred (merle to nomerle does not produce disabled doggies) that the relax gene pool many be domainated by a difficulty that may"T be examined for (I even have an a dogs with Addisons which will nicely be herititaty yet won't be able to be examined for till finally the dogs "breaks" which could be at age 7!)

Sounds like a good deal..Be sure to see the parents, as they will show you what you can expect from your puppy, as to how well mannered, etc.
